I hear you. I actually think that seasonal shifts in training are an excellent idea if you aren't preparing for a contest. Cycles, yo.

About 1+20 mountain bike ride, then 10 x 3/6/9 pullup/pushup/squats in the garage. Short nap and tailgate/football game, where we got beat by Michigan. They suck no matter how many games they win.

Yea, Michigan's defensive front line were lining up in our backfield. I didn't know that was legal.

Yesterday: Bike in and out to work

Today: Bike in via longish route. Left early heading home to do some single track. Hit a big rock back side of a dropoff and did an endo at speed...FUCK ME I HURT. The bike landing on me hurt almost as bad as me hitting the ground. Saw stars, knot on noggin (dented helmet), 99% sure I separated my shoulder (left looks almost like right shoulder now) but not grade III. Hit the naproxen and ice and wine upon arrival at casa.

Man, I know I will be sore tomorrow. Still, a good ride.

Tough week. Shoulder separation...still not ready for work. Biked in & out each day, doing one-legged deads and flailing away at pistols practice also. Throwing in Sun Salutations based on recommendations here.

Back bad this morning. Did 4+ mile run today followed by single leg squats off a bench. Much better now.

Got rained out of all day bike ride. Tried pullups...no go. So did Sun Salutes, ring dips, and one legged deadlifts. I'm really liking the OLDLs. Also, trying to integrate the windmills. Did them with a 5 LB weight tonight.

Took a break to take daughter to game. Then tired of sitting around waiting for diagnosis. Did...
50 burpees warmup
15 OLDLs each leg with 45 LB DB. Getting the movement down. I really like these. Back always feels better following.
Tabata KB swings with 45 LB DB, about 11 swings per 20 seconds. Stopped after 7th round, back was talking to me.
Diagnosis bad. FIL has a rare lymphoma.

Got and read McGill's lower back disorders book. I thought he wrote it about me. I'll have to get the performance one next. Some comments:

- The whole focus on this wet noodle of a spine carrying huge compressive forces through tensioning sets the paradigm
- I figured out on my own that I need to hold tension in my core when doing things like getting in a small car to avoiding spasms. Now I know why. I'm unstable.
- Learning to breathe while holding tension...exactly the same as doing g-straining maneuvers when flying
- Endurance is more important than strength (assuming you have enough strength).
- Fit for health (or for me, play) is different from fit for sport. Realistically, my goal now is fit for play.

Got clip-in pedals for the mountain bike as B-day gift, practiced not falling over today. Lots of single leg deadlifts with light weights, ring supports, one-armed hangs, some pullups, chase the kids, climb the tree, put up xmas lights, etc.

Back: tenderness in the SI, think I pulled something a bit last week.

Took bike with new clipless pedals out for a 40 minute hill spin. 60 degrees in PA in November...nice!

Over weekend...first trip to Pt Mugu.

Friday: Did 21/15 of thrusters and pullups, some OLDLs, then about 4 mile run to beach and back.

Sunday: Trail run behind Channel Islands College or whatever it's called. Brushfires resulted in nasty air.

Monday: While stuck at Philly airport waiting for next flight (5 hours), went out and hiked all the stairwells in the parking garages outside carrying backpack.

Got my flexbands in the mail. I'll try them today!

On the road doing more mil duty for a week. Packed my new jump stretch band, and have been playing with that each night. Also, hit the Pax base gym for 100 burpees/1.5 mile run, then 20 pullups, and fooled around with sets of OLDLs up to 50 LBs. Wine tasting at the Blue Wind afterwards.
