The First World War- series 2003

Post by Bob Wildes »

I am nearing the end of disk 3 of 4 from Netflix on this documentary.

There are numerous photographs and a bit of film from that war, but most of
the shots of certain areas such as the Somme for instance are modern, 2003, footage.

Numerous diaries or letters written at that time are used to recreate the time.

People that are scholars of WWI might not find anything of value. Others not
particularly interested in that period will not like it also.

It is interesting to see how some decisions made at that time are still affecting the
world today.

Germany had a General that led troops in SW Africa that never lost a battle. Some say he was
the Francis Marion of that day.

Probably worth seeing if you are reasonably curious about WWI.

.

Iron Dog told me about him but I can't remember his name?

Badmotherfucker! Had a navel ship strip of it's gun, conscripted all it's sailors to his unit and then had the locals drag the navel guns to battle.

Not a fan of Hitler later on, I hear.

If you'd put sentences like this at the top, it would save me a lot of time, Bob.
