Skunked Dog Solution

Post by Grandpa's Spells » Sat Jun 20, 2009 10:32 pm

Girlfriend's dog got sprayed by a skunk last night. This can often be a disaster if you let the dog in the house, as the place (and your clothes, and you) could stink for a week or more. Found this solution and it resolved it 99% by the next morning.

Mix in a bowl:

1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid soap

Wash the affected area with the mixture immediately after mixing. Wear gloves. The fizzing reaction from the H2O2 and the baking soda will help break down the oils in the skunk spray. Let sit 10 min, rinse, repeat with a second fresh mixture and let sit 5 minutes, then rinse again.

You can't let this stuff get in eyes/nose/mouth, so you need to avoid those areas. We used a wash cloth to get near but not on her mouth/nose/eyes. After the second pass, her face had a slight odor, and by next morning it was only on her breath.

Enormous improvement overall.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Step 1: Kill dog.

Step 2: Bury dog.
