Incorporating back down weeks

When following GTG, varying the volume and intensity everyday, does a planned back down week every 4th week or so, need to be done as with kettlebell lifting. Does any one do this when following GTG for a long period? many thanks.

Makena,

Hey bro! A few things i would do:
1. Get way better conditioned!
2. Learn some defense!
3. Become a technique expert.

I am too lazy to undertake another project/sport but if i were you i would absolutely wave my training in intensity and volume. I would take back off weeks.

For example

week1 a lot of strength endurance stuff, some sparring, some strength stuff.

week2 less strength enduarance, a lot more fighting, same strength work

week3 no strength endurance, a ton of fighting, less strength work

week4 recovery enhancement work like saunas, whirlpool, swims in ocean in the garden paradise you inhabit, a lot of technique stuff focusing on technique and speed, a touch of strength work.

repeat, unless you are competing than i would go at end of week 4 or add another taper week5. Week 5 would be same as wek 4 but a touch of short sparring.

Get the idea?

strength endurance: KB swings, sprints, rope climbs with just arms, high rep power cleans.Mulitiple sets of 10-15 reps
pure strength:squats, benches, rows, deads, zerchers, push jerk throws. 3-5 sets of 3-5

There's a lot of food for thought in there...mmmm....food. I'll have to think this out before I alter my training, but I love the idea.
