I agree with Garm. Really, you need to alter your lifestyle. The low carb/cyclic carb diets are a quick, but probably not permanent fix.
I like to do a progression like this:
Week 1: cut out cookies, cake, donuts, regular soda, ice cream, candy, snack chips. In short, cut out all junk foods, especially sugar-filled ones. Don't use sugar on anything.
Week 2: reduce your serving sizes of carbohydrate foods by half. These are rice, potatoes, breads, bagels, pastas, etc. Say you usually eat a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch, eat only one of the slices of bread. Eat only half your fries, half a bagel, etc. If you are still hungry, replace them with a protein food like cottage cheese, regular cheese, etc.....
Week 3: stop eating any of the above carbohydrate foods. Instead, eat vegetable, salads, and fruits. Feel free to use an olive oil/vinegar dressing with your veggies and fruits. Avoid dressings that have a lot of carbs per serving.
