Thanks. I think if a guy was only interested in fat loss, a brisk 5 mile walk pretty much every day would do it. I throw in BWE and YRG for a little strength and flexibility.

Good stuff. I've been meaning to add walking into my day...now that weather is permitting, perfect timing. 1000 mile year goal is a good one, I might steal that.

I do plenty of strength work but the flex work is terribly lacking.

are you tempted again to consider masters swimming or a marathon? or are you sticking with what's working?

Week 3/15 to 2/21

Weight: 235.5 (same as last week, down 16 for year)

BF%: 32.5 (up 1% from last week)

18.71 miles this week

220.4 miles/yr

Still right on the 1000 miles/yr goal

3/15: walk 5 miles, TRX EZ 15 min.

3/16: walk 3.4, HH + BWE 30 min

3/17: walk 4

3/18: walk 3.2

3/19: nothing

3/20: walk 3.1, HH +BWE 35 min, lite TRX 20 min

3/21: nothing (DOMS)

Plan:

Weight loss slowing down. Want to break the plateau this week. More miles, stricter portion control, 4 sessions (HH +BWE, YRG, TRX) should do it.

I am thinking about a half marathon April 11 but am not signed up yet. I wasn't going to complete until I lost 20 pounds. I'm just making a guess I'll be there by April 11.

Don't think I'll be doing the master's swimming.

Slow and steady weight loss-nice work. On the 4/23 log, does 15:42 mean that's your mile pace? I used to shoot for sub 15 minutes on 4 miles and that's a good pace for walking.

Yes, it's the mile pace. Though this is a trail, I should be faster. Last walking marathon --- 26.2 miles --- I held 14:30 miles. I've got a ways to go.

seems like you've done this without lifting a heavy weight, doing anything tactical, or incorporating either intensity or density into your program. when are you releasing your "writer's guide to a hale and lusty body"?

good work.

5/30
Weight 229
BF 30.5%
miles this year 427.53 (about 5.5 days ahead of 1000/year goal)

Seems to be a big plateau at 230. I've been struggling with it all month.

New goal of 100 consecutive perfect pushups (at 22 now). My definition of a perfect pushup: upper arms parallel to floor --- chest doesn't quite touch --- each one done on a single breath (exhale down, inhale up). Speed doesn't enter into it. No bobbing like a lizard. Each one takes about 2 seconds.

5/18 - HH+BWE 25 minutes

5/19 - Walk 3.5 miles

5/20 - Walk 2.65 miles

5/21 - Walk 3 miles, HH+BWE 35 minutes

BF% 29
Miles walked year to date 444 (@ a week ahead of my 1000/yr goal)

Building up the pushups, but modified the program. One second pushups. It became clear that 100 consecutive 2 second pushups aren't in my immediate feature. Form is still perfect.

I am at some kind of plateau at 230. Been right around this weight for a month.

5/31 - Walk 4 miles, HH+BWE 40 minutes

6/1 - Walk 3.5 miles

6/2 - Walk 6.4 miles, HH+BWE 40 minutes

6/7 -Walk 3.55, HH+BWE (115 pushups in sets of 15, a minute rest, 100 Hindu squats in set of 25)

6/8 - Walk 3.55 miles (too many pushups and squats: scale back a little)

6/9 - Walk 4.75 (redwoods trail)

6/10 - Walk 2 miles, HH+BWE 30 minutes (@ half the squats and pushups of three days ago 50, 57)

Miles, year to date 640. Way behind my 1000/goal. 80 miles behind.

The reason I'm so far behind is *excuse* and *excuse.*

The other reason is that I didn't do much walking or working out at all for most of the past two months.

I'm still going to go for the 1000 miles. Goal for the end of Sept: cut the deficit down to 60 miles.
