It's pointless. The guy makes a big deal about "jiu-jitsu and MMA" but nobody who's successful in either domain trains anything like that. Also, what's the difference between a "giant set" and a circuit? Not trying to be too harsh a judge, but there were significant douche-chills associated with the video.

Well, it wasn't any sport at all, actually. It's not what you need for BJJ, MMA, PL, Oly...maybe strongman? That seems to be the only domain where he's done alright. Again, not tryna be salted, but what is the point of this?

That's an interesting insight, MJ&S. Now, apply that to Mr. Alsruhe and his "giant set" methodology.

I think for a dude with two hip replacements that it seemed pretty unwise.

I mean, how high was that squat, actually? It was like a 6 inch squat

Brian trains people. People like what's special, new, and different. He packages an old concept, supersets, with a newer label and mixes in MMA and military references because those things get buzz among the cohort that will hire him and/or train at his gym. He has some good info from what I've seen but people gotta do what sells.

All the high impact jumping is contra-indicated for people with hip replacements, per a close relative with one. I dunno...this guy just seems like he's trying to prove what a hard ass he is, but it doesn't seem very smart based on my quick view of the video.

It's the landing that produces excessive forces. That's how plyometrics work: superimposing Golgi reflex on top of voluntary muscle contraction. This guy seems to emphasize the actual jump, and his landing is done in an absorbing way, if it makes sense.

Yes it makes sense but only a dolt thinks that the hips are not still taking a shock. You're not a dolt, are you sangoma?

It depends...

Seriously though, I understand why he is pushing himself. I have a few issues that accumulated over the years, and sure, it is not a great idea to work through pain, for example neck pain that has plagued me for a while now. But whenever I tell myself to slow down and take it easy there is some sort of little voice in my head that protests like crazy. Some sort of central governor antipode. Sometimes it makes things worse, but sometimes they get better. So who knows. The worst case scenario is another hip replacement some years from now. The best part - this guy is a dream patient to for any anaesthetist.

Just to clarify, Dave's had the hip replacements and I doubt was jumping around with Alsruhe? He has his ways which appear to work. Personally the giant sets don't thrill me.

I dunno, you gotta work around your situation - but it does get weird. The likes of Tate and Darden always look bandaged and beat up.

The windshield wipers Brian did looked pretty damn impressive to me.
