Kettlebell Exercises You Stopped Doing

Anybody quit doing certain exercises because their body couldn't take it anymore?

I quit doing windmills. My SI joint popped a couple of years ago and since then, when I've tried it, I get immediate feedback.

Also heavy snatches. Don't need elbow tendonitis for 4 months, and I like my hands calloused but not hamburger meat. My go to bell is now a 45.

Exercises that suck
Bent Press
High Pull
Kettlebell Floor Press
Bottoms Up Farmers carries, I like my teeth the way they are. Circus trick

Heavy TGUs -- They grind up my elbows
Light TGUs -- They're boring
High-rep snatches -- Even with GS technique, they beat me over time.

Not because my body can't take it, but I profoundly dislike:

- One arm swings.

- TGUs.

- Snatches.

- Bent press.

- Windmills.

- Tactical lunges n

I seem to avoid almost everything in the SF catalog.

It's funny the commonality. For me, I really ONLY do: swings, cleans, presses, snatches, and jerks, and only the first three with any frequency. I guess I do use KBs for a few other moves like get-up sit-ups, halos, and goblet squats, but just for a few reps in the morning.

Ones that are totally removed from my repertoire: TGUs, windmills, bent press, side press, and anything bottoms up.

I agree Jason, I remember doing TGU's with an 88 and how sore my elbows would get. 10 TGU's on each side with a 24 kg, is a nice little workout. I don't think there is any magic to them, but they're good.

I used to love snatching, but I'm just not that crazy about it anymore.

2 hand swings > 1 hand

Out:

TGUs
double kb anything
One arm swings
Clean and press

In:
low rep snatches (24kg) and two-hand swings (32-48kg) sets of 5-7 on the minute x 20-30 mins
Goblet squats
One arm clean, press, front squat combo
Press for reps (instead of clean and press)

I'm the opposite. If you do high volume 2 hand swings, your hands get less of a break and grip gets fried

My back barks if I do heavy high rep 1 hand swings. I'd rather snatch than one hand swing, but the hands are always an issue in the summer with the humidity

I have gone back to single bells for a little bit and really enjoy them. I like the minimalism of just 1 bell, take it anywhere if you please.

Funny how we are all different, I don't enjoy cleans as a ballistic unless pressing or jerking.

I still do:
*high rep snatches - 16kg bell for high reps is actually pretty low impact aerobic work for me. I can go for 30-60mins (at 10rpm, switching on the minute) and I don't mind the boredom.
*windmills - I don't go heavy and I don't push range of motion. It does good things for my mobility.

I'm not against pressing w. kettlebells, but I don't do them much. I should do Halos and thumb-press, but almost never do them.

I don't and have no desire to do:
*swings
*turkish get ups
*bent-press
*etc, etc, etc.

I also think a single bell reminds you of why kettlebells can be so great in the first place. It’s all you really need. The more kettlebells you add the more complicated and less fun the whole thing becomes.

Before you know it you might as well have a full rack of dumbbells in 2.5kg increments

If a couple of my bells didn’t have some sentimental value I’d probably have sold them all and just have a single 28kg bell which would do for just about anything.


Also if you don’t enjoy cleans on their own, as I never have, try doing what I guess you’d call “dead-stop” cleans: do one and lower the bell to the floor, pause and repeat. Somehow it seems a much better lift that way and much harder on the heart rate.
