    • I moved to my present location nearly two years ago.  Prior to moving I got rid of a squat rack, pull-down machine, and the accessories that go along with.   I thought I could get by, at my current place, with cattle-balls and a pull-up bar.  I was wrong.  So now I need to re-equip.  I realize we may yet be in some kind of equipment drought, but I’d be grateful for recommendations on what to get.  Height is no problem, my new gym has effectively  infinite ceiling height.  I’m a tall guy (6’3″), so if you have specific recommendations in that direction, I’m all ears.  I’m thinking some kind of rack, with safety bars, a bench, and optimally a pull-down doohickey, but I can work around that…  If you think the bar or ballast is important, I’d be happy to hear that as well.  My last gear was all “Body Solid” or some shit and worked just fine at obeying gravitation…

What I have now is my dream: power rack with dip and chin facilities.  If you have the space, they also make modular lat machines that attach to the power rack (see Rogue).  Otherwise just get a EZ-curl bar and do lying triceps extensions.  That plus a solid adjustable bench and dumbbells for assistance and you’re in a very good space.  You can do presses, bench presses, dips, chins, pulls, and squats safely without a partner.  If you can, get a rack with Westside pin placements, it’s more variable which can be nice, but isn’t necessary.  Kettlebells are like fat chicks, only adequate when you’re faced with no other choice.  If you want to go hard, get an adjustable bench with quad/hamstring extension attachment, plate loaded or that can piggyback on the lat machine attachment.

Ironmind pillars of power/squat racks OR a folding squat rack with the dip attachment and a bench that hangs on the wall
