    • I’m a physics/mathematical idiot for the most part, so please humor me.

I’m training now with old school Samson 10lbs dumbbell plates on a short 5ft standard plate bar. Besides the point, but these plates must have been imported into the country way back when because no one carries Samson – or maybe they were available years before I trained. They are definitely US made.

The ergonomics feel different than my commercial gym oly bar and 45s (which I’m not training on now; still locked down)…I swear these old school plates feel heavier! But is the weight distribution different – center of gravity and all that – making things feel harder? What’s the go?

I’m keen to know because I think I’ll stick with this 1800s strongman training even when gyms open back up; it’s been a positive revelation the nanny state has given me.

Also not any sort of physics brain, but I figure it could be any of the following:

      • the bar being a little bent
      • the plates varying some in their actual weight, throwing balance off a little
      • with the thinner bar, the COG sits on your hands/shoulders in a slightly different place
      • stiffer bar without the flex of an Oly bar
      • no rotating sleeves
