Unlike any other sport I know of, in surfing, you can head on down to the arena and pit yourself against the best in the world.
My absolute favorite wave on the planet, Lower Trestles, is this year’s deciding battleground for the World Champ.
Probably Monday, a one-day event will be run, with the Top-5 Men and Women battling it out and the winner walking away victorious.
Last Sunday, I paddled out, and caught absolutely nothing, but was right next to the current Gold Medalist and World Champ Italo Ferreira and shoulder-to-shoulder with Mick Fanning, a 3x Champion, hustling for waves.
Gonna head up tomorrow, (the contest should run Monday) and see if I can catch something. Yew!
