I just finished Larry Correia's Monster Hunter series for the second time in anticipation of ordering the newest book in the series.

Really good stuff if you're into fantasy and realistic gun play. Well, as realistic as it gets when the hero is shooting monsters, but you know...

Also been going back through a lot of Capstick's stuff on Africa and hunting.

Highly recommend it. No revisionist shit, very honest picture of the various Indians they came across and a lot of them were thieving little scumbags, warlike assholes but also some real good people in there too.

Pevear/Volokhonsky translation of Chekhov's short stories. First time reading Chekhov since the shitty Garnett translations of high school/college and such a wild change after year of contemporary short fiction where everything has a hard/twist ending and most are set in run-down mill towns/rural areas/meth capitals to provide flavor.

He gets older in the series. I haven't read the more recent books, so I can't say whether or not it would make sense to start with the more recent books-- my sense is that it wouldn't (I would want to know how he got the perspective he ends up with). I started kind of in the middle with A Noble Radiance, and it's the one that got me hooked. Death and Judgement is also great.

Was at arailway station and needed something to read,got "Rogue warrior of the SAS,the Blair Mayne legend" by Martin Dillon and the late Roy Bradford.
The book is about Paddy Mayne,who served in the SAS during the second world war.Good read.

In honor of the passing of Mary Stewart earlier this year, I am re-reading (for the 10th time? since junior high) the Merlin series telling the story Merlin's life and his role in bringing King Arthur to the crown.

Just read Niall Ferguson's "The Great Degeneration: How Institutions Decay and Economies Die", kind of weak, which surprised me. Though, he was mentioning "Why Nations Fail" by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson. Just finishing up, fairly interesting and refutes a lot of crap Jared Diamond has put out.

Great book. I've never been able to really get into naval history, but loved that one.
