State of IGX -the way forward
Long story short the Software IGX has been relying on to operate for the past 10 years has reached the point where
It's no longer viable to keep using it. Therefore we need to make the necessary operations and transfer our current content
(posts, training logs etc.) to a different platform.
The cost for this software is $400. That is without the cost involved for hosting which is anywhere from $1600-$2000 a year.
Those that are able to contribute to at least the purchase of the software we need can donate by clicking here.
The earliest we gather the money the faster we can proceed with making IGX alive again.
All of the material and sources will be saved and preserved nothing will be lost.

I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Re: State of IGX -the way forward
What's the real way forward here? Every year we fall short of the target, now it's $400 higher, and usage seems to be at a low point. I'll kick a few bucks but if we come up way short, as I imagine we will, what's the real way forward? New members, advertising, what?

I took over in 2007. Every year now for 10 years we come short of our target and I always have to pay money on my own to keep this place going. I anticipate this year will not be any different.Thud wrote:What's the real way forward here? Every year we fall short of the target, now it's $400 higher, and usage seems to be at a low point. Making IGX into a functional forum again will enable us to attract more members. I don't think that advertising is viable because most advertising platforms outright prohibit about 90% of our current content

we need the next glassman, so we can both unite in bipartisan scorn and ogle t&a.
i fear, though, that early x-fit was an outlier.

It's awesome that you do what you do, but it shouldn't fall on you. (And other generous benefactors. Big-ups to you $100+ donors, and Syggy, who along w/ Dux is in a class by herself.)
As for advertising, I don't know. We like to glorify how incorrigible we are here, but truth be told, are we any worse than the doosh in the White House?
Seems most of us are really subsidizing Kaz saying "niqqers" and Darth cumming in everyone's eye. There's gotta be some gun and strap-on dealers who wouldn't mind. Shape surely must have connections.
As for new members, what's the deal? Haven't seen an "intro" in years.

I agree that it shouldn't because there is a lot of work happening in the background for all this to work (or not work) but it has always been the reality of the matter even when we had a very active membership. Syaigh last year donated $700 in total and the year before that $300. Seahill routinely donates $200, in the beginning we had a lot of $100 donors but that's not the case anymore.
There are some advertisers that we may be okay for however no one pays in advance and the expenses are all in advance if we want to secure a good rate.
When it comes to new members, there has always been a problem with spam bots making fake registrations, up until recently the technology we used for this forum was not capable of dealing with them, but there may be some light in the end of the tunnel.

Re: State of IGX -the way forward
It's another forum software called "vBulletin". It is a lot more modern and comes with many more features because there is a company behind it and it comes with a price tag however I will try for that to be the last option. The current software we use is the second best out there it's just a lot of work to streamline due to the forum being over 12 years old in its current iteration.
Like a car no matter how well you maintain it sometimes things break and you have to use your ingenuity to keep the motor running.
