Re: The couch thread

Post by Sofa King »

Back about 10 pages ago, an @fit thread was referred to that had couch addressing a couple of us and our comments. That thread also included a guy named Cassidy Drake.
That was the same guy who claimed he went to CFHQ, looked in the trash, and was surprised to find a large amount of empty booze bottles and little else. That was about 5 years ago.

He was also assailed by Matt Gagliardi.

Bottom line: drinking accident.

I never realized we were so popular.
Lately I’ve been reading through the gold in the Couch Thread over on IGx. I’m not going to link it, because you either know or you don’t, but the hilarity presented there is something truly special.

I accept defeat on Tate/Wendler and barbell complexes.

I however like them, as well as Rutherford's dumbbell complexes.

As stated, I do as well. Started doing them again after reading DJ's new book. I haven't tried Rutherford's db complexes. May have to try that tomorrow instead of my bb complex. I have been perusing Rutherford's blog and site over the past couple of days while looking for info on MEBB and realized he has a nice blog and bootcamp deal going. I hadn't been over there in a couple of years.

Can you give an example of one of his db complexes? I know just density db c&p's from the floor will kick your ass.

There's some stuff here:

Truth be told, I've seen some of his DVD's too, but I mostly just take inspiration from the stuff and make up my own complexes and circuits. Mountain Athlete is also a good source for ideas:

as with nearly all this shit...you have to aske why. why complexes? as a warm up, i get it...the goal is to be warmed up. is it just to breathe hard? that's what scrumping is for.

This is in the context of shedding pounds. It's an alternative (or supplement) to running, biking, rowing, etc.

I find it less boring than other things. It makes me feel like picking a person up and throwing them out a window. Biking doesn't do that for me.

If one tries it and likes it they should do it, if they don't like it they do something they like.

Thanks, thud. And I'm all over mtn. athlete. I'm still pissed that he went to a pay site but more power to him. It's really simple, though, to come up with your own db complexes or just adapt them from the bb stuff. There is also the bear complex.

Cm...that's really about it. A good conditioner using large movements that work just about everything. Just another alternative. Plus it keeps me riiiipppped!

Yeah. In my quest to shed about 15 lbs. of fat--I am a guru on teh leanness, after all--I decided to thrown in some complexes. I googled one of Rut's and saw this:
Every minute on the minute for 20 minutes perform the following:

5 Dumbbell Deadlifts
5 Dumbbell Hang Cleans
5 Dumbbell Thrusters

Load @ 45% of BW
I tried this nightmare and said fuck it after a couple rounds.

I looked for the link again for you and found this video. Apparently I was using double the weight I was supposed to and doing real hang cleans (instead of HPC like the video shows). I feel a little better now, but it would still be difficult.

I just read over that Rut bear complex, and subsequent vid, this afternoon, as a matter of fact. I may give it a go tomorrow.

Of coarse this has been covered ad infinitum on the forum before. I mean you have Javorek, Reeve, Cosgrove, etc.

But we are getting off topic...

Fuck FagFit and gin couch!

Le Foxy One was doing this about a year ago, IIRC. I was inspired to try, and will try again.

well, at least you're owning it.

i don't think it will work any better than rucking with a vest..i will say this, really simple "complexes" have always worked well for me. jumping between a bunch of light bullshit stuff with a barbell or even BW stuff i just feel like i'm rushing around and never get any flow.

Simple: just repeatedly loading a sandbag, picking up a rock, throw, run throw run throw run, axle clean and press many many times, flip a tire beat the tire flip the tire beat the tire....

i can't see where these are any different physiologically than a complex and they have good flow and technique actually seems to improve a little. but whatever. you like what you like.

I like doing SM medleys like what you listed a lot too. Stone carrying, sled pulling, SB shouldering/squatting, sledgehammer, FW with kbs or thick handle dbs...great shit. I do quite a bit of wt. vest rucking also.

CM, I'm not saying barbell complexes are better than any of that, they're just more of the same. But hey, if I were closing in on a 600# deadlift and had access to all that crap I'd probably like what you were doing too. <<<<q

WTF is right, that couch has bigger titties than Barky. He almost looks like he could be related to the kid from Two and a Half Men.

And 3 weeks to being 'athlete of the month'? Come on, even MickeyD's and Burger King have higher standards than that for their staff for a '______ of the month'.

Its' polio now? First it was a gymnastic's injury, then a war injury and then a motor cycle injury. My guess is that it was a drinking injury.
Reminds me of an old joke:

Why do you limp?

An old basketball injury.

You played basketball?

Hell no, I fell off a barstool during the Duke - UNC game in 1996.
