One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.
He's still selling his rings and doing the ring thing. I know he had a lot of trouble meeting orders for rings this past summer, with 6-8 week waits for delivery, no idea why, accompanied by grumbling from the masses. Gill Athletics has long had a good relationship with xfit too.Grandpa's Spells wrote: What happened to Tyler?
I made my own rings out of plywood, yellow glue, sabre saw, router, and climbing webbing.
Don’t believe everything you think.
Cool thing about xfit is the way they encourage average people to try out different things. In the spring, I got excited about acrobatics stuff again after many years, when I was reading their page. I think of xfit as some sort of fitness gallery page, and a collection of cool workouts and exercises. Don't know about the effectiveness of the whole system, and I'm not sure if I care. Like there could be some sort of magical ultimate system for everyone.
I think the arrogance and the elite stuff is just a marketing strategy, to get people pissed off and interested. Would be interesting to know which of these "new school" systems have the most followers: xfit, CST, RKC, Furey Faithful. Is there more of these? It's very interesting that all seem to have a lot of good stuff and a lot in common, and also some cultish followers.

I am pretty sure XF is running at the top of the pack.
While I have some shit to talk about certain aspects of Crossfit, the affiliates have fucking exploded over the last few years.
Tyler's problems with his rings were that he had to have picked a super shitty fabrication company. Injection molded rings have to be super cheap and easy once you have the mold made.
Honestly, given a 100 ton injection molder, a supply of plastic, and the right mold, there should be a ring made about every minute to 90 seconds.

Two very valid points. Especially the last one; Arthur Jones and Vince Gironda would certainly agree that arrogance was part of their marketing strategy.
FWIW, I don't find CST folks to be arrogant, at least on their forum. Cultish, yes....definitely elitist. But the overarching feel to the forum (and to the DVDs and books) is overwhelming earnestness and sincerity. You can't stay mad at 'em, because they don't ever exhibit the Couch behavior patterns. Whether the emperor actually has any clothes is something other people can debate.

Look at the videos for Jan 11th and 13th. I like the way you see different speeds and movements simultaneously. I haven't seen videos done this way before.

If your a gymnast you're getting this as part of the activity it's crucial for.
For what group exactly is being "fully oriented while inverted" essential?

Bouldering in caves requires extended series of moves with feet at or above hands and head. Not completely inverted.
Recently, changing out the box that controls the windshield wipers under the dash in a Ford truck.
Right now I'm teaching myself to do a kayak roll, which requires a lot of time hanging inverted in the kayak. The inversion messes with the head in executing the maneuver. Being comfortable inverted is essential to doing it right.

Being upside-down definitely isn't specific, but the kind of coordination even the most basic gymnastic progression have you doing seems to me to have made me better at catching myself when I fall, more coordinated, and so forth.

FWIW, my cap. teacher was really big on spending a lot of time upside down (duh) and Ethan Reeve advocates tumbling, although in his case I believe it's to train for awareness and coordination when your vestibular system is all shook up.
