Re: The couch thread
I really don't get why anybody would want to invoke the potential wrath by wearing a 1% shirt that isn't a part of the 1%ers.
That's just foolish....

These are trying economic times. I wonder how far they'd be willing to go to get a discount.

I would have thought a hillbilly would be more familiar with outlaw motorcycle gangs than city folk.stosh wrote:Help a hillbilly out: What's a 1%er?
It's both gang colors and a badge of honor. A 1%er is an outsider, not a polite member of society.
Wearing colors when you're not in the gang is a bad, bad idea.
The Internet may have taken FTW away from the outlaw bikers, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to let go of "1%er" without a fight.

Re: The couch thread
1% comes from back in the 50s I think. In a article some one said that only 1% of the people who ride are criminals. The outlaw bikers loved that and took on the 1% as a fuck you.

Ah. Learn something new every day. Guess I need to come down off the hill a lil more often....
Might be interesting to note that about 1% of all deaths worldwide are due to cirrhosis of the liver. Just pointing out another possible connection to XF.

They are the guys hanging out in packs, always packing weaponry, and will kill or beat a motherfucker to death in a very real way for disrespect. The guys you see at southern rock concerts that you don't look in the eye b/c they'll stab you. These are not guys to be fucked with. They don't wear their jackets and patches for shits and giggles. They will kill a motherfucker and they don't follow the rules so it may be 4 on 1 and there WILL be knives and guns involved.stosh wrote:Help a hillbilly out: What's a 1%er?
The fucking fagfitters. They may be proving Darwin correct. And they're wearing the patch in California? Sure, no MCC's out there. LMFAO

HQ only even ran that piece because they were shamed into doing it by grassroots support on Facebook and elsewhere in support of Clever and Holmberg.Yes I Have Balls wrote:The outpouring of support and respect for these two great champions is really overwhelming.

I hope I'm not talking out of turn here, but my good friend Jay Ashman, who's no fool, is on lockdown (post moderation) at the forumz after starting this thread:

HQ really doesn't understand how badly they're pissing away their brand with their childish antics and their North Korean approach to media management. One day they'll shoot themselves in the foot too many times and there will be a full scale affiliate revolt.

Its a damn sad day when an organization's premier event isn't even celebrated properly until almost two weeks after the actual event.WildGorillaMan wrote:HQ only even ran that piece because they were shamed into doing it by grassroots support on Facebook and elsewhere in support of Clever and Holmberg.Yes I Have Balls wrote:The outpouring of support and respect for these two great champions is really overwhelming.

Where else do you see this happening? Even in the strength world of pisspoor reporting and little fanbase (as compared to the mainstream sports world) it doesn't take nearly this long to report on the winners of their premier events and Boz's excuses are worthless. HQ doesn't just have a 2 person staff, they have dozens of people who write for them, do CFJ articles, etc., someone could have made the call and said, "can you do a quick writeup right after the games so we can report this on the CFJ?"... but instead they make excuses and act like the people criticizing it are the stupid ones.
Its a damn tyrannical system. Fuck 'em.

Re: The couch thread
It's always going to happen when relative unknowns win, because there's no established story. Spealler seemed to get most of the attention because he's a well known figure.
The problem for crossfit is that someone new might win the games each year, and a new sport trying to establish itself needs repeat champions with a clear rival or two to generate the necessary drama each year (Arnold popularized bodybuilding partly because he was so dominant).
When someone new wins each year, and the previous champion comes 13th or whatever, then it gives off the impression that the competition is random, and it comes down to luck if the events suit the competitors. Which is probably fairly close to the truth, and complies with their stated ethos, but it's going to retard the growth in the interest in the games from a spectator point of view.

From memory, the interview and documentary came out several months after he won. He also had that European Cyborg vibe going on.

by which I mean, he had a ready-made, distinct image from the get go.
This year's male winner is not particularly distinguishable from most other competitors on the surface.

Except that's totally irrelevant to the situation we're discussing. This is the New Media era: instant, on the spot reporting, tweeting, blogging, yodda yodda. This isn't the Pony Express era of news reporting. All the excuses that the koolaid lemmings are making on Jay's post are absolute bullshit.Count Truculent wrote:It's always going to happen when relative unknowns win, because there's no established story. If I wasn't persona non grata I could have had a lengthy, well written (in my opinion, at least) in-depth post on their wins online on Mainpage within fifteen minutes of them getting on the podium, with pictures.
Pathetic.
Re: The couch thread
WGM is right. A short article could have been put out the very next day. This is basic journalism, and you think the usually media-savvy @Fit HQ would have picked up on that: marketing is the only thing they're actually good at.

I've just been informed that Rogue has dropped the 1%er patch from the model of shirt they'll be selling to the public.
Now let's hope the sponsored athletes fold their Games shirts up and put them in the bottom of the drawer.

All the people at @fit HQ are either faggots, hardcore lesbians, hopeless drunks or sucking Couch's cock, but they sure know how to keep that website up to date. Today they posted a picture of Camille:Yes I Have Balls wrote:And yet, when someone from HQ interviews an ATTRACTIVE female competitor, the comments board lights up!

Re: The couch thread
Maybe it's because I'm about 4 yrs removed from @fit idiocy, but I find myself caring less and less about them and their bullshit.
I know I posted a comment after driving past @fit LA last Saturday, but that was fueled by the look on a poor schlump's face more than any hate toward them. @fit is proving to be a fitness fad practiced by hipsters and yuppies in Vibrams and compression socks more and more each day. It's like the spread of the dreaded fixie bike, only less annoying. I see fixies everywhere.
I can go weeks without seeing an @fitter.
Still, carry on.
