Your more ideological CrossFitters act like there are only three ways to train:
Retarded, where you suck at everything.
Ultra-specialized, where you're really good at one thing, but suck at everything else.
CrossFit, where you're balanced between several things.
In reality, there's lots of different middle-way programs that strike a balance between strength, endurance, and other stuff. This includes most sports' strength and conditioning programs. The more opened minded @fitters are figuring out that a structured mix of lifting+running+skills is actually better for CrossFit's stated goals than CrossFit itself.

I witnessed Josh's face off with @fit's former poster boy (Jan. 2005 in Vista), Greg something (not Everett). Josh whooped up on him doing "Fran" (21-15-9 of 95lb thrusters and pull ups as fast as you can go without doing serious injury to yourself).
Josh was sub 2 min. The @fit made monster was right behind. He's the real deal, but also disclaims some of the @fit fucktardedness as he did to prepare for the @fit Gaymes. He's more a Burgener disciple than a follower of the GWF.
Also, he's way to humble and smart to get caught up in the cult's fun and games and probably had his way paid to participate. So yeah, he's no @fit made monster.

There's nothing that needs to be said besides watch the video and read a sampling of comments below....
My 7 yo daughter, who does CossFit Kids, watched the video with me and said, "I hope I can be like Kallista one day!" I smiled, hugged her, and said, "I hope so too, honey, I hope so too!" As the father of 3 daughters, I could learn a lot from Kallista's parents, who apparently have 4, and obviously are doing something right!!

That video was incredible. I'm sitting here in tears right now. That kid is my hero.

As soon as I can get the tears out of my eyes I'm going to show that video of Kallista to my daughters. Wow!
Great work, awe inspiring heart.

that video brought tears to my eyes. i guess because it was a girl trying to do something great and it made me think of what i want for my own daughter.

Kallista, you are a star! I don't think I've ever been as moved emotionally from watching a vid. I, too, had tears rolling down my cheeks. Truly inspirational.

Kallista-
Darling girl, you are a delight to my life. Thank you for your amazing inspiration. I never ever cry, and can hardly even flinch, no matter what goes down. You shook something out my soul, and had me in tears and joy as I watched you. I was mesmerized by your soul, as it battled against the bar and imposed your unbreakable will over it.

Re: The couch thread
This to me speaks volumes. The only man to place highly for so long, so consistently does NOT follow the mainpage WODs. Oly lifting with track work. Occasional circuit work ala XFit. Thats it folks and he'll outlift any of the top tier XFitters and smoke 99.9% of them on WODs.Shaf wrote:Josh Everett (#2 in XF games) did this to prepare
Note...this isn't the WOD and has nothing to do with XF programming. How am I preparing for the games? Nothing special really. My weakly schedule looks like this...
Monday: agility drills followed by either 30yd sprints with a sled or sprints on the track up to 300m... everything is with full recovery... no fatigue
Tuesday: about 45 min of O-lift training focusing on snatches and sn asst movements a few sets of light C&J. After this I do a wt room based Crossfit (no running)
Wed: Sprints: 40yds up to 150m again with full recovery
Thursday: 45min of O-lifting focused on C&J along with heavy squats. I follow this with a running based Crossfit
Friday: rest day
Saturday: heavy o-lift day sn, C&J, squat... I usually follow this up with either 3x10 L-chins or 1x40 regular chins
Basically I enjoy sprinting & O-lifting so it makes up the bulk of my training. I'm ignoring training for the distance run because I felt like doing that last year really wore me down and I couldn't have run any worse than what I did anyways. As far as being mentally prepared... mostly I'm just visualizing my self being successful...also thinking of any and all possible wods and how I would attack them. The toughest part for me will be convincing myself to compete on the run... I have no interest in running over 200m competitively.
I was super happy to see this. It was posted also over on PM, but Josh had to go say this which pissed me off:
God dangit Josh!BUT i challange you to name another program that has gotten more people fit than crossfit, and that has improved the fitness of our military personell like crossfit. The program works... can anyone name someone that has done more for fitness than Greg Glassman?... Maybe bob hoffman?
But others piped in on the thread:
Basically, if yes the CF games were an accurate respresentation, then we have an incident where [1] CF (mainpage) does not necessarily "optimally" produce fitness or [2] FITNESS may be derived from multiple pathways not just CF programming. Might be a combination of the two, but I'm leaning towards #1 at the moment just because I've seen the effect lots of strength can have very easily on metcon ability (aka Donnie's grace).
Anyone who believes the CFWOD is the optimal fitness program is delusional. It's a cookie-cutter program, which works pretty damn well for a lot of people (like the Zone diet), but it's not specifically tailored to get everyone to perfection.
At anyrate its all moot because XFit now boils their definition of fitness to "increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains." They further refine this into faster times on WODs. That's it and all they care about.I still have my doubts about full-on mainpage WODs. The burnout rate is way too high.
This goes against every definition of fitness I've come across, is no longer inclusive, etc. That's the breaking point for me.
Moreover, it is further evidence that when put to the test, they change the game and rules to satisfy their outcome.

Wow. I hope that being a newly crowned elite athlete has a multi-million dollar contract that puts food on the table(other than the scraps from waiting on tables) for mom and baby.I almost didnt go to the games because of my wife being almost 8 months pregnant so I have her to thank for the wonderful birthday gift (today is my 29th birthday)...I was finishing a 12hr shift at the restaurant and I got the news.

Sweet tomorrow's fodder is up for the masses. Couch didn't like a little critique of his program:
And by the way Couch. STOP SHRINKING GIRLS BOOBIES! Tomorrows picture is freakin gross. Slogan - Crossfit: Blurring the visual distinction between men and wiminz..

In ususal fashion Couch has posted this to his blog for affirmations from the lemmings that he's okay and a true patriot of our times. Expect lots of Gung Ho rally cries kids. CCT Joey, Lt Col Dan, blah, blah and the rest of his resident Mil lemmings will voice their support to make it seem even more legit (e.g. "don't worry coach Im an operator and I know the truth!!!!1")"Another item I want to touch on pertains to a cover story in a recent Navy Times on Crossfit, "the new fitness craze." This is a commercial off the shelf (COTS) program and is not tailored to an individual. Several SMEs in the sports medicine field (military & civilian) have addressed a concern that the program has the potential for causing an increased incidence of musculoskeletal injuries and even muscle breakdown (rhabdomyoloysis) and therefore is not supported by CPPD. Granted, anyone can develop a program that's very intense but there's a safer way of doing this for our Sailors. Additionally, any program that names exercises after women is contrary to our Core Values."

Glassjaw also made it clear when he said something to the effect that if an elite PLer came to @fit, his total would drop, but he'd be "fitter." You know, just not fitter for his chosen sport, but uh, fitter. For something. yeah.

Just got back from a few weeks in theater. At one SOF base in one of the "stans" they celebrated the 4th with contests including a team contest on Fight Gone Bad (A xfit workout). At another, in their extraordinarily equiped gym they had a full set of kettleballs. I asked a guy what they were for (BF SEAL), and he said they were for xfit workouts. Then he went and did a bunch a bench presses. One guy I talked to gave me some printouts of bodyweight Gym Jones workouts. Interesting data points.
Don’t believe everything you think.

I was in complete control of that towel swing, and the good old sled yank is training my resistance to ballistic shocks. I know some guys who drag sleds with neck harnesses, and they use jumpstretch bands to modulate that.
I'll have to get some new vids up for you sometime.
The way it yanks me is hilarious. I have a hard time not watching my own vids and snickering at my own dumb self.
I should have gotten the ankle dragging vids on. In one I can no longer muster the strength to walk forwards doing the ankle drags and basically just slam face down into the grass.

It would have been unsafe if the pins weren't there. You gotta be able to dump the bar sometimes. That did cause me to re-evaluate where I put the safety pins, though, since they were too low in that case.
