Re: The couch thread
I can see this rowing studio shit taking off... Has anyone ever tried to have a conversation with a SoulCycle wacko? As bad or worse than @fit.

Sure, but who has space?Cave Canem wrote:http://www.wellandgoodnyc.com/2014/01/0 ... es-in-nyc/
NYC- where the boneheads don't realize that for a few month's dues, they could have a C2 in their own apartment. But I forget, it's all about the "community".The Upper East Side’s EVF Performance announced earlier this fall that they’d be opening a second, swankier CrossFit box near Columbus Circle. Now, they’ve revealed that the new space will also include Row House, a studio dedicated to rowing-based group fitness classes.
“I’ve been noticing the rowing trend build as CrossFit has been building,” says EVF owner Eric Von Frohlich, who’s opening the space with his wife, Debra. “There are people who want the benefits of CrossFit but are a little intimidated by the barbells and the skill set required. Rowing really hits a much larger section of the population, and it’s safe, efficient, and effective.”
Others would agree with him. New York’s seen the launch of three new rowing-based fitness brands in the past year—Brooklyn Crew, Throwback Fitness, and CityRow. EVF’s Row House will be the fourth. While the CrossFit floor at EVF is expected to open around January 1, Debra says Row House will most likely debut the weekend of January 12 or 19, with free demo classes.
The three types of Row House classes will include lots of intervals on the rowing machine. In Row House Cardio, you’ll also do cardio-based calisthentics like burpees and jumping rope; in Row House Core, expect planks galore; and for Row House Full Body you’ll encounter weights like kettlebells and resistance training like squats and push-ups. Classes will be capped at 10–15 people and have the motivating music and exciting vibe of a boutique class, say the Von Frohlichs.
"Community" is right. It's all about meeting hotties, and who can criticize them for that?

I mean, I guess if you pay $200/mo to workout, then that is more important than a $50 pair of jeans. And next time you are feeling frustrated trying to fit into “regular clothes” that all the other women are wearing, remember most of those women will never understand that feeling right before a lift or that moment right after a new PR. Our goals are more important than fitting our asses into a pair of fucking jeans.

One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Prescott mom accused of assaulting daughter
PRESCOTT - A Prescott woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting her teenage daughter early Monday morning at a home on South View Drive.
According to a news release, Prescott police charged Lisa Lugo, 38, with felony counts of aggravated assault and child abuse, as well as misdemeanor disorderly conduct. She was booked into the Yavapai County Jail.
Police say Lugo slammed her 14 year-old daughter against a door and grabbed both of her arms, leaving scratches, bruises and abrasions, and that Lugo's 10-year-old daughter saw at least part of the alleged assault.
According to the news release, Lugo was uncooperative and verbally abusive to the responding officers, who reported she appeared to be intoxicated. She eventually allegedly blew a .209 blood alcohol into a portable device.

Just reporting what I am hearing from my social media feeds, apparently there was a catastrophe at the OC Throwdown competition in Socal this weekend...Anyone here have video of the accident?
My twitter feed is a smattering of this....
"Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin Ogar, crossfit athlete who had a barbell drop on his neck during competition. #crossfitfam #crossfit"
"Barbells for Boobs @Mammograms Kevin Ogar has severed his spinal cord and no voluntary movement below his waist. We will have a full fundraising page up for him tomorrow."

According to Jacob, who has known him for years, he severed his T-11 and T-12. He has no voluntary movement below that point. Its a goddamn tragedy to see that happen to a competitor

Fuck. I can't imagine how bad that would be.
Absolutely horrible.
