I don't discount Bud's argument. Regardless of how much I generally love celebrity schadenfreude, there's something pretty fucking oily and corrosive about this, whether this instance or ones before it.
I also would guess 50+ % of the shriekers have at one point or another either posted, commented on, or laughed at pictures of complete strangers on FB with less than zero fucks given about how crappy it is to take a picture of some fat lady/hairy guy on a beach just because the photographer and the photographer's tiny little peabrain thought that person ought to be mocked in public today.

Nobody is absolving the hackers, and people do indeed bring up personal responsibility when you do dumb things that get you victimized. In fact, people get really angry when you suggest college women should take steps to protect themselves that college men don't have to.In any other context, when there's an online security breach that compromises personal data, the onus is placed on (a) the hackers and (b) possibly the company that allowed the breach to occur. It's only when it's CELEBRITY NOODZ that people start to talk about "personal responsibility."
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

If you live in a bad neighborhood, don't lock your car doors, and get your car stolen-- that's exactly what they say.Bud Charniga's grape ape wrote:Setting aside that millions of people do see leaked photos of Starbucks baristas -- or else revenge porn websites wouldn't be a thing.Grandpa's Spells wrote:Same with privacy. I love how the idiots have started shrieking "Your blaming the victim!" when you point out that common sense would have avoided all the trouble. Storing or back up your nude selfie pics to the cloud is akin to leaving a large amount your cash locked in the car glove box. Yeah, it's kind of secure, but in reality it's not. And wishing it was otherwise isn't going to change reality. Life isn't fair; get the fuck over it and start using some common sense.
No one is absolving the criminal hackers, but don't be an idiot and make their lives easier.

It's OK to feel badly for young people who've made poorly reasoned decisions. Most of us are guilty of an equivalent level of stupid at that age.
I feel for the foolish hacker/s who accomplished this magnificent gem of a hack. They are about to experience the dark side of government high level of investigation that will imprison them and fine them beyond belief. For what reward? Bad bad decision.
And Apple, has a gang bang of law suits en route.

Paris and Kardashian were in on their sex tapes being released, is one difference.Mickey O'neil wrote:Funny how everyone saying this is like a sex crime, etc weren't yelling and screaming when this happened to Rhianna, Christina A., Paris Hilton, Kim K. and all the other chicks this had happen. Different standard when it is someone like Jennifer Lawrence? It sounds like bullshit to me.

I can grok what Mickey is saying, and milosz's sensible opinion there as well.
Paris Hilton was making sex tapes and flashing her piss flaps to the paparazzi with Brit-Brit and Lindsay Cokehead while Kim K. was banging Mandingos on-camera and they all did it for attention. They set the standard for that kind of thing. And probably got paid a little. They deserve whatever trash gets talked about them.
As to people who get their phones hacked, I don't think it's a violation like "rape" is and I don't think it's "rape culture" either. It's more like just the usual skulduggery that people get off on because they feel like they're getting away with being "naughty" by leaking private pictures, and dirty bitches like Paris Hilton exploit that shit for personal gain.
It's The Circle of Life.
Also, I send The Future Mrs. Herr Doktor dick pics all the time, as well as pics of my torso and abs, which look more and more awesome every week that I work with Tom Furman. If anybody wants an eyefull, don't go through the trouble of hacking me, just ask!!
