Re: The future of the AR-15
http://extras.mercurynews.com/policeguns/Nine-hundred and forty-four guns. From Glocks, Sig Sauers and Remingtons to sniper and assault rifles,
They used to belong to law enforcement officers across California, but a new Bay Area News Group investigation found hundreds of police-issued weapons have been either stolen, lost or can’t be accounted for since 2010, often disappearing onto the streets without a trace.
A federal ranger's stolen gun was used in the high-profile killing of Kate Steinle as she walked with her father on a San Francisco pier. Despite the attention, a year later guns are still being stolen from law enforcement officers' vehicles. A year after a bullet from a federal agent’s stolen gun killed 32-year-old Kate Steinle on a San Francisco pier, this news organization surveyed more than 240 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and discovered an alarming disregard for the way many officers — from police chiefs to cadets to FBI agents — safeguard their weapons.
Their guns have been stolen from behind car seats and glove boxes, swiped from gym bags, dresser drawers and under beds. They have been left on tailgates, car roofs and even atop a toilet paper dispenser in a car dealership’s bathroom. One officer forgot a high-powered assault rifle in the trunk of a taxi. The tally includes Colts, Rugers, Smith & Wessons, a Derringer, a .44-caliber Dirty Harry hand cannon and a small snub-nosed revolver called a “Detective Special.” In all, since 2010, at least 944 guns have disappeared from police in the Bay Area and state and federal agents across California — an average of one almost every other day — and fewer than 20 percent have been recovered.

Why did no one tell me full-auto flintlocks were an actual thing?!!
It turns out the Continental Congress placed an order for 100 of them. No joke.
They canceled the order due to what they considered an outrageously high licensing fee by the inventor.

FYI, i believe that since it's black powder, you could legally make one of these! More compact than an organ gun.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belton_flintlockthe only evidence of its existence is the correspondence between Belton and Congress. Belton described the gun as capable of firing up to "sixteen or twenty [balls], in sixteen, ten, or five seconds of time". It is theorized that it worked in a manner similar to a Roman candle, with a single lock igniting a fused chain of charges stacked in a single barrel, packaged as a single large paper cartridge.[1] Despite commissioning Belton to build or modify 100 muskets for the military on May 3, 1777, the order was dismissed in May, 15, 1777, when Congress received Belton's bid and considered it an "extraordinary allowance".

I thought this was a reasonable argument for registration: http://www.vox.com/2016/8/8/12351824/gu ... n-solution

Now that this anti Rusisia insanity is ending I want one of these AK 10xs
Re: The future of the AR-15
Sheer coincidence, but I finally got that CHF FN barreled upper I've been wanting, right before the election. Late Bday present from the wife. I expect the market to remain stable for some time, so.no.hurry on more parts for other rifles.

From Palmetto? Those are nice and reasonably priced.Schlegel wrote:Sheer coincidence, but I finally got that CHF FN barreled upper I've been wanting, right before the election. Yes, I'm glad I no longer feel rushed to complete the multiple rifle lowers I have.
Re: The future of the AR-15
Yes, hopefully Trump sticks to his word and repeals Obamas ridiculous gun executive orders, especially the anti-Russian firearm one and the more recent 41F related to NFA items.bennyonesix wrote:Now that this anti Rusisia insanity is ending I want one of these AK 10xs

Re: The future of the AR-15
Buddy who's life has been a living hell in lower-management at a firearms distributor for the last year has basically been given a paid week off now. Orders after Tuesday night dropped by 75% even with Christmas coming because so many shops had been over-buying in anticipation.
Gonna be some dirt cheap ARs in a month or so.

Re: The future of the AR-15
I can't remember the not-AR/not-handgun thread, but I got my tax stamp back after six months for the CZ Skorpion SBR. Went and got it engraved at a knife shop so it's fully legal now.
Not useful for hunting or anything but if you were into that sort of thing and wanted a home-defense 'rifle' I think you could do a lot worse than this option. Short, mobile, light, easy shooting and if you went all-in with a suppressor and 147gr rounds (fairly sure they're all subsonic) it would be very close to hearing-safe.

Re: The future of the AR-15
I train a kid who works at MidwayUSA. They had an entire extra warehouse full of AR ammo, magazines, and parts in preparation for if Hillary won. He said it would last a week if she won, but was enough for years if she lost. Now they're going to have "Black Week" instead of Black Friday, starting the Monday before Thanksgiving, so look for that if you're interested. Also, no limits on ammo/mag purchases and a free ammo can with any ammo purchase.
I love those Scorpions. I decided to build a Glock style 9mm AR instead so I could buy it one piece at a time.

Re: The future of the AR-15
I am curious if ammo prices will drop at all, it's disheartening to go deep into the ammo safe and find boxes of new production .45 where I paid $5/50.
Re: The future of the AR-15
I think the current higher ammo prices is the new normal. Still probably cheaper than being a golfer
Re: The future of the AR-15
Yeah, your basic M4 carbine clone from PSA with just iron sights. I did spend a tiny bit extra to put a range-adjustable rear sight on. I'd also like to put a scoped long barreled upper together or more probably a complete rifle specifically for longer range target shooting if I ever get the time for more practice in. 100 yards is plenty right now given my limited free time.Herv100 wrote:From Palmetto? Re: The future of the AR-15
I need to buy a cheap upper for cheap steel cased ammo
Re: The future of the AR-15
I don't know how cheap you want to go, but PSA is very reasonable. And the barrels are mil-spec, basically FN barrels.Herv100 wrote:I need to buy a cheap upper for cheap steel cased ammo

Re: The future of the AR-15
Yes I'll probably go PSA or Aero Precision
Re: The future of the AR-15
PSA is basically good products on a budget. Not top of the line, but not a bottom-feeder for sure. If you can wait for what you want to be a daily deal (unpredictable) you can get a darned good deal. my M4 style complete upper with FN barrel was $320 without charging handle or bolt carrier.Herv100 wrote:I need to buy a cheap upper for cheap steel cased ammo
Their normal mil-spec barrels are Wilson, the NON-CHF but FN made barrels are button-rifled, but the same "machine gun" steel as the FN CHF. Stainless barrels I don't know.
It is critical with PSA to actually read the description carefully. They have a lot of variations in product because it's all made for them by different companies, and what's on sale will be whatever batches have just arrived.
You will see a lot complaints of slow shipping online. I think this was during the great AR demand. I have not had any delays myself.

Re: The future of the AR-15
Yes they take their sweet time to ship orders.
If you haven't yet, check out Aero. They make parts for a lot of big name companies and their barrels are made by Ballistic Advantage, a small outfit that makes accurate barrels for reasonable prices. Last I heard they use Douglass blanks.

Re: The future of the AR-15
Maybe the local Walmart will be able to actually keep ammo on the shelves now that people aren't stockpiling the shit out of it....
.22 has been around here for the past 6 months if you were willing to hunt around for it. Yesterday, I actually saw shelves full of it at Dick's and I was shocked.
