Anyone watching the prelims? Goldy saying "That's textbook kung-fu right there!" when Costa got eyepoked?
Re: WAAAAAAAAR SONNEN
It's been a while since I saw the fight and I haven't been around a tv all day to watch it.protobuilder wrote:
They are replaying the fight for free on ufc.com if you haven't seen it in awhile. I think your assessment is just wrong. Silva TRIED to be aggressive like he always does but watch his other fights: he never comes out aggressive! He throws a few things to see how people will react, he moves around to see what the other guy does...and his typical opponents "respect" him/are scared and so they give him a few minutes of free viewing time, sometimes they spend the whole first round feeling him out.
And then when Silva has their riddle solved, he starts doing the hand rolling thing and you know it's game time. Several seconds later, his opponent is usually KTFO.
But Sonnen came right him and actually dropped him in the first. Then smothered him on the ground. The beginning of the next few rounds, Silva came out of his corner aggressivly looking to turn the tide and get back to his striking game. didn't work.
I thikn Silva got caught by surprise in that first round. Then he tried to turn up the heat whenever he was on his feet but he couldn't do it b/c he couldn't stop Sonnen's takedowns.
Sonnen may have well taken him off his game but even before that fight Silva looked like he was just mentally coasting at times.
What will happen tonight? Who knows? I'm rooting for Silva because I like his style of fighting. I prefer stand up because I'm an ex standup guy, and I would like to see Sonnen get silenced... At least until his next fight.

Fucking a.
Slipping the backhand spin is gif-worthy, right up there with Silva-Griffin or the cage-walk kick.

Re: WAAAAAAAAR SONNEN
The attempted greasing (fucking blatant), shorts-holding and then the knee which I thought looked like it was aimed for the head is all bullshit.
Silva won, but fuck that guy. I will still pray for his ass to get stomped one day.

Time for him to either move weight classes or hang up the gloves. He can either fight until he loses like Fedot did or go out on top and cement his legacy.protobuilder wrote:

And that's why I dislike Silva. He's fighting to save his legacy. He'll fight Bisping and 2-3 other boring middleweights with no chance of stopping him, then he'll retire as the GOAT. He won't go up b/c he might lose. He didn't even want to fight Sonnen again b/c he might lose (which might explain why he greased and held Sonnen's shorts, stuff you had never seen him do before).

Agree. Seeing him doing that disappointed me.
He did go up once. Found Irvin and demolished him, granted its only Irvin...

Everyone does that shit, it is called trying to get every advantage possible. I mean shit Sonnon failed post fight drug testing in their last fight, I find that slightly more appalling than holding onto the shorts....Jay wrote:Agree. And Silva has moved up twice, he demolished Irvin, and then simply embarrassed Forrest. God forbid the guy doesn't want the long term brain damage that comes with having guys cutting from 240 potentially pounding on him. He has run through everyone in the Middleweight division, and if he doesn't want to move up that is his choice. If no one can challenge him at that weight, than good on fucking him for being the best at that weight class ever. Not his fault no one can compete.

Re: WAAAAAAAAR SONNEN
Silva winning keeps the GSP superfight intact. I predict GSP does 2-3 more fights at 170 before handing the division over to his friend Rory MacDonald. Anderson will probably fight Bisping, Belcher, or Munoz, and Hector Lombard in the meantime.

Re: WAAAAAAAAR SONNEN
Rub that shit all over your cock and balls, Herv. You too, Fat Cat. Bunch of fucking arseholes who believed the hype and disregarded the clear evidence that there is a gulf in class between Sonnen and Silva that is galactic in dimension.
This wasn't a "great" win or a "great" fight or hard to predict.
Silva's post match "respect" was thinly veiled condescension and amusingly offensive. And why not. As soon as he had 2 feet of distance, we all saw Sonnen's catastrophic limitations. Man against boy.
How's it hanging, EZ? Still rockin the gut with the ginger trim? And you, BD. You still know everything about everything?

Daza, you are righteous and wise. Most of the rest of these clowns live in special care-in-the-community sheltered accommodation and deserve pity and charity. Herv, for example, has no penis and had to teach himself how to speak by watching television.darren wrote:Nice to see someone respect the talented champion. LOL @ the gut and ginger comment.
And I picked Silva early if things went right. Doesn't make me like Sonnen less. You're cunt and you know it.

Haha, Gorby you're getting pretty heated. IMHO, it went down more or less as expected, but the knee at the end was clearly illegal. I've watched it over and over and you can see it's directed straight at Sonnen's face. Considering that it was the deciding blow, I'm not surprised the way they curtailed Goldberg and Rogan in the play by play.

If he were a fighter who wanted to prove he is the best fighter in the world and not simply the best fighter in historically one of the weakest divisions in the UFC, he would go up to 205 and challenge Jones.CharlieBob wrote:And Silva has moved up twice, he demolished Irvin, and then simply embarrassed Forrest. Why not? What is the downside?
Oh that's right. He might lose.
Others have held belts in multiple weightclasses simultaneously. Why not Silva?
The only way he'll even ATTEMPT to do it is by fighting smaller guys (eg, the welterweights). That's laughable. Dan Henderson has fought at 3 different weight classes and held multiple belts despite being waaaaay outsized. He's a fighter. He doesn't care. He fights.
Anderson stays in his comfort zone. Greatest of all time. In possibly the weakest division in MMA. It is what it is.

Re: WAAAAAAAAR SONNEN
"The deciding blow"? What fight were you watching? Sonnen had take downs and weak ground and pound. His style is a relic. Titoesque. Quaint. Troublesome but not dangerous. As soon as Silva got space it was shockingly apparent just how limited Sonnen was. A spinning elbow where he ends on the floor? He's lucky it was stopped when it was. Silva was going to give him an absolute fucking beating. Quit the shit. Your hope was crushed. You're embarrassing yourself with this idiocé.Fat Cat wrote:Haha, Gorby you're getting pretty heated. Herv, nice to know you've been reading my Training Journal. I'd read yours but you're way too much of a bitch to even think about posting one. You're worse than Protohomo.

Re: WAAAAAAAAR SONNEN
I thought so during the first viewing, but now definitely not, IMO. Sonnen was almost stationary, and here's an angle that shows where the point of the knee landed:Fat Cat wrote:Haha, Gorby you're getting pretty heated. That would represent a huge "miss" on Silva's part, relatively speaking. His accuracy is extremely good.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Would anyone bitch that JBJ isn't cutting to 185 to face Silva?
