Satria Indonesian Yoga
I got this DVD hoping big things and I was a bit underwhelmed. But before deciding against it,...check the review.
The Bad--
This DVD did not play in the dvd player. I put it in my laptop, chose a file and started it from there. Something wrong in process, and I do not feel like sending it back to England to get another.
The original videos on reelcombat.com were done is some exotic studio with camera's on tracks, etc. This one was done in a studio that looked like a living room, but still a nice setting.
This is not REAL yoga, but a series of Silat Ground positions that are repeated with the addition of some Pilates, and a bit of Yoga. Not a problem, but "Ground Conditioning Indonesian Style" would have been a better title.
There are no real cues to breathe, maybe I missed them,...but I think it was glossed over.
The GOOD--
Laarni Benitez is very clear and articulate.
The camera work shows the front and occasional side angles of the exercises.
As far as hip strength, abs, glutes, and legs,...this workout is VERY good.
I suck at some of the Harimau Shoot/ Harimau Leg Curl stuff. I noticed this training in LA, and I need to work on this.
A good introduction to Tiger, Crocodile, Snake, Turtle, Monk, etc. positions and the strengthening drills.
A Pilates type abdominal/glute session that is melded with the silat.
About 40 minutes long. With a short intro, and some previews.
Overall this is fun, and I need someone else telling me what to do since I coach other people and only try to push myself. This would be outstanding for any BJJ players who need hip flexibility to move like Baret Yoshida or Eddie Bravo in the guard. It opens the hips safely, and sensibly.

Tom - I am assuming that this is the same stuff featured in the clip on your blog? It looks pretty "neat", but damned near impossible for most beginners. And where'd you get it? I looked at the "GoldenLightStudio" website that scrolled on the clip and I got some graphic design gallery. Pretty, but they didn't offer any SE Asia MA.
Update: Oh, never mind, I looked at reelcombat.com and its "Golden Light Studios (plural)".
I notice the price is in pounds. If I order this bad boy with my credit card, is there anything special I need to do?

It might not be the dvd. There is some wierd stuff going on dvd wise. I have some that will play fine on one of my player, but are completely rejected by another. One computer player will play and let me use menus, another only play. I dont really know what is going on. It can be a bit annoying when I want to play it on one player and it won't play....

Re: Satria Indonesian Yoga
Resurrecting an old thread, I have been playing around with mixed modes of ruesridatton (Thai hermit exercise), Anand Layraman's stuff, and this satria yoga. I have to say that the tiger and crocodile exercises are very good for my hips and have become a common element in my pre-bedtime regime. Turtle is a very serious ab workout as well. I give it my fat stamp of approval.

Given the age of this thread and the links, it looks like reelcombat may have moved along in its product offerings. Is this former Indonesian Yoga now the Ground Fighting DVD?

I believe there was some sort of a falling out between the people running the show. The new place is here:judobrian wrote:Given the age of this thread and the links, it looks like reelcombat may have moved along in its product offerings. Is this former Indonesian Yoga now the Ground Fighting DVD?

Free resource showing almost all the postures as a playlist on youtube. Scroll through the playlist at the bottom of the screen. The video I link is the first of the turtle conditioning.

For the White Temple (Wat Po) style medical stuff from Jivaka the book by Corsi is good. There are some good shows from Thai television on youtube that were demonstrating the 60 or so classic poses. I'll think of some others.baffled wrote:Mr FC,

Other stuff you have to piece together from different sources. Even Wai Kru have a lot of yogic positions. In ancient times there was a Vedic civilization that incorporated not just India but much of what became Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, Laos, and Philippine Islands. They had a whole science of the body that codified the meaning and effect of various postures, expressions, and hand positions and it pervaded everything from their martial arts to their dance and fine arts. If you look at inscriptions from Ayutthaya, the kings ministers for example would go through a whole series of bodily prostrations laid out in specific postures, etc. etc. Warriors getting ready for battle, priests for rituals, they would all do a series of movements to prepare.
