Dan John is the Milli Vanilli of the strength world. Bastard.
A novice is someone who keeps asking himself if he is a novice. An intermediate is someone who is sick of training with weak people and an advanced person doesn't give a shit anymore. - Jim Wendler

One of Dan's old posts over there seems to indicate that he stole the heels stuff from the World Class Coaching videos.

Actually, I stole it from Denis Reno's newsletter...then the videos.

Reno had a guy that had a short little letter to the editor from Bulgaria. He just observed that all they taught was "heels, heels, heels."

I'm just poking fun at the intellectual property thing again...

Couch is in the new issue of Muscle & Fiction?
How perfect is that?!

I'm hoping for a foldout centerfold type of deal.

Any point to it?

btw I know this guy. Until recently he was a PT manager at a gym in Palos Verdes and held/holds a California state Oly record.

I really shouldn't feel like I've been caught jacking to gay porn after watching that video.

That isn't something I could do but between the music, the weird as head adjustment he does after each clean, and the "bro" cheering I feel like I've just watched some kind of gay fetish vid.

Mickey, right click on the picture in question and hit "copy image location" then paste it in here. Then highlight the link, and hit the IMG button. Should work.

Rest assured, the insanity lives on:

20 minutes of Tabatas AND sprints? And this guy wonders why he almost blacked out doing deep breathing exercises while driving 70 mph along Hwy 101?

ledfist making fun of the idiot?

Post by ledfistaco »

I poke around there sometimes. Usually when someone asks about learning oly lifts, and I pitch Lost Battalion to them in an attempt to recruit lifters, or when people talk about learning the lifts from books, I tell them to get a coach and share some links on how to do that. I'm a shill for my sport.
Sadly, local NYC xfitters that have come on down to LBH have not stuck with it too often. I don't think it's a productive fishing venture. The xfit crowd is just not the right crowd. They're usually not into competing at meets. They're not into ditching the metcons and maybe losing 1 or 2 of their 6 packs. They don't like trading endless 135lb cleans for fewer 235lb cleans.

One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Ooh love that "transformation video" that goes along with cool guy's truck there, especially the part where religious voices enter when Piehole's mug appears.

So humble.

I may have figured out a few things about my disdain for @fit after seeing that video.

First, the unrelenting push to finish and finish fast over proper form. I know we love to go round and round about OTW vs. WRONGSTYLE, but at @fit they seem to love PUKEYSTYLE. Just go hard and damn the form. If it hurts, push through it. Is that good for a 55 y-o stockbroker or 36 y-o soccer mom with a poochy mid-section?
Next, the unrelenting push to indoctrinate by some strange magic manna. The idea of a box, programming, the vernacular, the drive to puke; all of it is just out of touch with what people really need. I'm beginning to think the average fatass is better off going to 24 Hr. Fitness and signing up with a PT. Probably cheaper, too.
Finally, the unrelenting use of children and dogs as marketing icons. At one time, I was guilty of helping them do this. I forwarded a picture of my volleyball team using CF protocols in training. I've regretted it ever since because CF didn't make them better volleyball players. Practicing volleyball did, and they were minors. Their pictures do not need to be on the internet to show that some fitness site is "family oriented" or "safe for kids." You know what's safe for kids? Playing. Not working out with oly bars.

Oh, and that truck is just sad, but typical for the IE. (Inland Empire for the California-impaired. The IE is home to 80% of the meth labs in So. Cal.)

They still use the picture of my backyard, too, but I understand that. Let's be honest, I have spent well over ten dollars (American) outfitting my Institute and I understand the need of many to emulate the sophistication of my facility.

I still think what originally got me banned, beyond the fact that I use a Darwinian (Maffetone's) definition of "fit," was my discovery that using these methods were: 1. hurting my athletes and 2. making them weaker.

Those are, among others, important things to consider for the Strength and Conditioning Coach.

It's more fun when Super-Slow gurus show up anyway. You've been fishing in the wrong pond!
