I will say this. The amount of affiliates is staggering. Couch gets a taste on a monthly basis? Not bad for a second rate gymnastics coach with a mild drinking problem.

One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Re: The couch thread
Rant,
The Murray Institute for Lifetime Fitness (MILF) was founded by a matching grant by several important individuals and foundations. The total annual budget for R and D is well over six bottles of Jack Daniels and several cases of beer. The majority of the equipment is found and/or stolen and few things match. It is considered one of the jewels of the training world.
One interesting thing: there are currently two members of the NFL who have trained here, dozens of guys who use guns for a living, top level Highland Gamers, and, of course, a jillion thrower types and assorted misfits.
The owner/operator is only known for his charisma and not his ability to coach.
You would be welcome.

The affiliates?
I can only imagine how this would all go to the Director's head. The last thing we need is people emulating someone like me. I give money to charity, I'm kind to people and I actually train: what kind of message would we be sending the fitness world?

Re: The couch thread
As a favor to members of this board, I am selling affiliates for a monthly fee of $150.
Cash only. None of the money will go to Dan, cuz it will tarnish his image. I will gladly
spend the fees on strippers.

Too bad this goes right over the heads of those who need it most. . .or something like that.
I just want to work with the BFR2000.

Re: The couch thread
Hell with that. Check out all the sold out certs. Attendance is a grand each, and IIRC, he charges the affiliate like $2000 for him and his crew to come in. I'm no mathematician, but he must net about $10-12,000 per cert.Rant wrote:I will say this. The amount of affiliates is staggering. Couch gets a taste on a monthly basis? $1000 to affiliate; $500 to renew. About 200 affiliates so far. Good for him on the one hand.
Sad statement of how people can be duped on the other.

No question that the cert's are what buttters his bread but a good franchise set up is money for nothing. I have heard that Bikram hits his studios from anywhere between $500-$2000 a month. That's money for nothing and maybe even chicks for free. Let's say Cooch gets $500 month from 200 affiliates. That's $1.2 million. That'll keep Cooch in gin for a long time.

Re: The couch thread
I counted it once.
Something like 80 attendees at a big cert.
Figure 25% were returning for Level III status, and 25% were returning for Level II status.
So.
40 folks paid $1500
20 folks paid $500
20 folks paid $250
He apparently didn't, at the time, do much for the trainers he brought with them (like pay for travel and lodging).
That's a shitload of nice cash money brutha.

Re: The couch thread
Really? We just got into the @fit economics discussion. Next was to be a discussion on the impact @fit has had on ancillary businesses such as DynaMax, BSF, several different KB maufacturers, Buddy Lee, Buddy Lee's doo-rag maker, UnderArmor, Gilbey's Gin, Acme PVC pipe, the list goes on.Rant wrote:OK that's it for me. A Concept II Certification?
I remember the "one who shall not be named" sitting at my dinner table telling another Banned for Lifer and our wives about the "real" money that we could all make doing this stuff. The P. T. Barnum School of Business...

Re: The couch thread
I'd love to be the captain of that ship:
Level 1 certs
Level 2 certs
Turnkey Affiliate Seminar
Basic Barbell Cert
Gymnastic Cert
Kettlebell Cert
O-Lifting Cert
Running-endurance Cert
Triathalon Cert
what-the-fuck Crossfit Kids cert
Not to mention various "special" events and affiliates. What's next?

Re: The couch thread
I believe so.
It's funny how the Games AREN'T open to everyone, only to those who train Crossfit. I strongly suspect that for the first games there were some folks NOT associated with Crossfit who were going to show that their training regimens were comparable or even better for the events.
I like how there were a bunch of crybabies about how their poor wittle hands were aww messed up fwum the heavy deadwifts and then the puww ups they had to do. AWWWWW!

Yep, for example, I was told by an amigo that he'd claim I trained at his affiliate (despite it being in another country) if I wanted to compete.
