I thought Gilson was thinking about David Goggins. Navy SEAL badass, ultramarathon runner, and someone who could destroy any "elite" @fitter if he thought it could benefit his charity.Gin Master wrote:Amundson is the rare 200+ body weight machine. His lifts aren't that high, though.theoverman wrote:That's who I thought it was. I dunno how fast he ran it, but I'm sure his pace was suck for an ultramarathon. Yet another example of being all around mediocre.Quack Attack wrote:
Amundson ran 80 miles (didn't pull the full 100). Is this supposed to be him?

The first person that comes to mind when reading Gilson's screed is Joe Decker, and he's not a damn @Fer.
Amundson moved at an overall pace of 18 minutes a mile, quitting at 80 miles in 24 hours instead of trying to do 100 miles or do the original goal of 100 miles in 24 hours. He started to run at 12 minutes a mile, but gradually slowed down as his body got chewed up. His pace would be okay if it was on a course like Western States, Wasatch, Leadville, or Cascade Crest. Something on trails where there was elevation to deal with. However, Amundson was on pavement along the Pacific Coast Highway. Pavement can fuck you up over long periods if you don't have good running technique, but you can usually move faster on pavement than on trails.
Joe Decker on the other hand is someone that doesn't take shortcuts in what he does. He sent me a copy of his training awhile back, simple but effective. He lifts heavy, puts in the miles, and tries to find the right balance between the two so his abilities peak at the right moment before his events.

Bravo sir! But, this is a farce that could soon become reality. For $XX/month you leave your dog with an L1 animal couch while you flop about your local black box. The elite deserve elite pets and elite pets require Crossfit Animal Kingdom.Kraj wrote:Damn, these fuckers don't quit. I really gotta get off that CrossFit mailing list.

Sorry, had to stop watching the Skip Chase bullshit video. Hey, bad day, car won't run, lost your job, kids are sick?
No problem, come to our happy place and do the WAD. Leave your burdens at the door.
Kids are sick? Yeah honey. I'll be home in a couple of hours. Gotta go to the Box and do the WAD.

This thread went from 500 to 585 in like three weeks, just like an AssFitter's elite deadlift.

Again revisiting the nonsense of CrossFit's obsession with power output:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH1XR06UqUw
So, this guy "only" power cleans 225lbs for thirty reps in four minutes. Comparing this to the 135x30 C&J WAD...
- This guy took about twice as long as an "elite" WAD time.
- He moved the barbell roughly half as far (no jerks).
- He used somewhat less than double the weight.
This means his power output would be less than half of an elite CultFitter. By their standards, that makes him a worse/less fit athlete. I'd like to see one of them tell him that to his face.
By the way, according to the YouTube page of the guy above, he trains the discuss, highland games, and strongman events. He doesn't mention CrossFit anywhere at all; the use of thirty reps above is simply because that's where he tired out. So, for the 18 lurkers out there, he's not "trying to do a WAD." He's just an actual athlete training for actual events, in a way that he sees fit.

Re: The couch thread
That looks fuckin fun!!!! Comparing that to the 135x30 is like comparing the towing capacity of a F350 to a Tacoma, or better yet a Yugo. Part of me wants to try that - and no way could i even come close to what the athlete in the video did - that was inspirational!! I've never gone over 10 reps with such a set. That would hurt so good. And you would be fuckin toast afterwards.
It's amazing what you can do with your shirt on!!

Also, excellent work Kraj!
Another Gilson delusion piece, he doesn't actually realize he states in the article exactly why @Fers are always injuring themselves...
http://www.againfaster.com/articles/dont-quit.html
What garbage. "Don't listen to your body, it's just too weak to know that injuries are good to avoid!!!"Master Kool-Aid regurgitator wrote:In the bottom of a clean, quads burning, you’ll want to quit. Pulling deadlifts, the skin on your hands tearing, you’ll want to quit. Your body protesting, crying for relief as your veins pump waste, you’ll want to quit.
Your mind will scream from its high perch, commanding you to stop, lest you break, crash, and burn. Feeling the outer limits of your capabilities, it will hit every physical and emotional alarm in the arsenal, rocketing pain, misery, and doubt into your thoughts.
It would be easy to give in to the hot rush of your brain’s emergency brake. To drop the bar. To get off the rings. To let your knees collapse as panic breaths heave through your chest.
Don’t.
Superhuman performance is separated from mere fitness by the undeniable need to persist, to never give up. Those who achieve are resilient. Standing when you want to fall, punching when you want to tap out, and running when you want to walk are the necessities of elite athleticism.
High intensity compound movement, performed with moderate loads, will bring you face-to-face with this crux—quit or continue—faster than anything else on earth. Unique in its ability to elicit pain, this combination of distance and weight will expose your character with every repetition.
When the knurling scrapes your shins, and your traps bunch into knots, you’ll make a decision, one that will affect every aspect of your life. Give in to the agony, and you will always give in. Cave to demands that crush you, and you’ll always cave. Roll to the floor, and you’ll always exist beneath those who choose to stand.
Remember that the walls of the gym are nothing more than physical barriers, meant only to separate us from the elements. What you do within those walls will echo in your daily life, and you would do well to choose your actions wisely.
Push for one more repetition. Live through one more pull. Get to your feet one more time. This decision will accumulate momentum with each iteration, and you will move into the realm of greatness. Like a boulder rolling downhill, you will become unstoppable, undeterred by the falsehoods of your weak mind.
Next time the demons of hardship come rushing forward, push them back. When your muscles bellow for relief, carry on, and smile at the sting. You will become more than an athlete, and you will be amazing.
