Re: Amazon's Kindle ebook device
Finally in a position to get an ebook reader. The question is:
Kindle or B&N Nook black and white? Don't need the Nook color because I just want it to read books, not be an ipad.

I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

Unless you want to hack out, I can't see the upshot of the Nook. There are comps all over the place on the google. Check them out in person.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote:Finally in a position to get an ebook reader. The question is:

The big complaint against the Kindle is the lack of ePub support, but as I mentioned in my review above this is solved easily through calibre and I wouldn't be surprised if they add the support in a future software upgrade.
The Kindle now supports pagination on the Kindle editions of the paper editions.

I was given a Kindle 2.0 that wasn't being used.
It's easier to read than the Nook Color. The Nook Color is basically a dumbed down android tablet with proprietary software than an ereader.
I like them both. My wife likes the Nook Color because she can also do crosswords and sudoku on it.

How's magazine content on the Kindle?

Friend of mine gets the New Yorker, and she's very pleased with it. Except all the cartoons are in one section and not scattered through, the way God intended.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote:How's magazine content on the Kindle?

Re: Amazon's Kindle ebook device
I've had a Kindle for almost a month and I like it.
BUT
Amazon overcharges for ebooks.
The Kindle, in its accessory case, is not that easy to hold & turn pages. I now read it in the Landscape view, with keyboard on the left.
It's easier to hold w/o the case, but not ergonomically great.

I think the newest basic Nook has the Kindle beat as a pure book reader.
Same e-ink pearl screen, huge memory that's expandable with regular cards, 2 month battery life, touch screen. $140.

Re: Amazon's Kindle ebook device
I bought a Pandigital Novel on Ebay for $100 already hacked. So far so good. Works just like the Nook.

Re: Amazon's Kindle ebook device
picked up a Kindle last week.
I've wanted one for a while but held off because previously Kindles in Australia have been uneconomical because
of both limited selection and amazon charging extra for purchasing from Australia. There are ways to get around this
and use the US selection but all were too much hassle
I checked a week or so ago and the extra charges have been removed and book selection is a lot better.
So far I'm converted and pretty happy with it.
Buying books through the 3G service is quick and easy and cost seems reasonable, so far I've bought and read
1 just released fantasy book, and have 2 others on order including latest George RR Martin one. All were $9.99 US which is
pretty reasonable.
Just purchased Shane Hammonds book Melons to Medals which was $7 something.
ordering seems almost too easy and quick, no password or login needed, so would be easy to rack up the credit card bill.
Screen is easy to read and change font size on, and the kindle cover with the light which I thought would be a stick on thing
is actually pretty good, the light is powered by the actual kindle and pulls in and out as needed, and hidden away when not needed. Had a powercut the weekend it arrived when some idiot drove into a powerpole so was able to give the light a good test.
