Risto Weightlifting Shoes Series II White Thunder

Post by Gary »

Got these a few months back. Really good overview here: http://buyweightliftingshoes.com/review ... es-2-shoe/

A lot's been made about these being completely handmade. Not sure that's an improvement. There are imperfections that you wouldn't get by taking advantage of the advancements brought by the Industrial Revolution.

The straps on mine are both way too long. One of the metal rings for the laces came broken. Annoying, but I like the shoe. I think it looks good and the completely flat sole grips really well during squats and the classic lifts.

Proportional heels. They get higher the longer the shoe is, which means that the actual foot angle stays about the same for each lifter despite lifter height (which is correlated to foot length).

The only other lifting shoe I've ever owned were the Power Firms I bought to replace my Chucks. I loved those shoes, but I like the Ristos even more. Some minor issues, but I'm glad I bought them.

My love for this shoe has waned. The loop on the tongue came apart and that was the last straw. I read on that site buyweightliftingshoes.com that the first batch had problems and that things are way different now. I wouldn't buy these again, but mainly because I'm not so keen on the classic lifts anymore and just need a good shoe for squatting. Ristos are for people who need a quality shoe for weightlifting.

I'm selling mine super cheap to another lifter who wants to start using a good shoe for squatting and front squatting. I let him try my Ristos and he fell in love. I've since ordered the white hard leather VS Athletics. They're not supposed to be very durable if used for actual weightlifting, but I've heard great things about them as a dedicated squat shoe.
