while posting the above was merely a whim, after 45seconds of contemplation, i'm beginning to see a conspiracy.

@fit has continuously set itself apart as better than globogyms and i imagine their meteoric growth could have developed a cabal of shadowy 24hr fitness overlords to work a long term plan to take out crapfit from within. by mutating assfit into a globogym.

they're using crossfit's own 'everything is crossfit' platitude against them. maybe it turns out that everything is globo.

To me, that's an unrealistic response. Reebok is going to be be so off-put by the Gaymes, they are going to cut their loses ASAP.

The interesting thing I noticed glancing through those posts is that it is usually the people who have been around a few years who are questioning the wisdom of HQ (unless they're a box owner). It is the recent converts who are the most vehement in their defense of the (lack of) programming. Does it get any more cultlike than that ?

I finally read through the article in question. Garbage. They try to meld the whole "ready for everything" shit that @Fit tries to defend itself with and make it transfer over to legit competitions.

The last bit just makes me laugh:

All real athletes peak, or try to. To argue against the idea of trying to have your best day on meet day is the pinnacle of stupidity.

Now, of course it doesn't always work, biorhythms just don't always coincide with meet day. Shitty sleep. Travel. Different food. Nerves. Shoe meeeeeeeltdowns. Falls off the rings. Note that they all go out and still give world-class performances IN A REAL SPORT, it just may not be a SB or a PR or a world record.

Oh wait. We're talking about a guy who comes from an exercise shenanigans background where "world records" are set every event because they keep changing the goalposts.

I think that "Every workout is a competition" bullshit is starting to infect people. CFer's constantly confused a fitness challenge or test with training. THat is the only thing (other than just plain stupidity) that explains the comments in the that thread saying running 800 meters 3 days in a row plus other shit is a good idea. Sure, it's great way to test endurance, both mental and physical, but it's a stupid fucking way to get fitter.

THis could also explain BMacs problem with peaking. If every training session is a competition, you can't peak because you expect to be in top shape at all times.

No other sport trains this way. Weightlifter don't warm up then try to hit 3 pr's on the snatch and 3 on the C&J and go home, football players don't just play for an hour 5 days a week to prepare for sunday.

It's a fine selling point and probably isn't a bad idea for newbs who have done no physical training before, but once you are about 2-3 months (at the latest), it starts to be counter productive.

Look at it this way: IF every athletic competition was between 2 people only, then peaking could ONLY have a 50% success rate in producing winners.

Since there are many competitions in which there are more than 2 competitors, but there can still only be one winner, then OBVIOUSLY peaking has way less than a 50% success rate.

I don't want the couch thread to actually have any decent training discussion, so here's Andrew Wilson's Rhabdo count.

191

That's 191 cases of rhabdo reported on forums, facebook, and affiliate blogs. All caused by @F.

He's not posting the numbers for them, but there are shitloads of:

Slap tears
Achilles injuries, both partial and full tears
ACL injuries
Back injuries

Rhabdo, SLAP tears, Achilles tears - these pretty much leave you damaged for life.
ACL and Back injuries - you can come back from them, but you cannot use @F as your rehab, if the injury isn't too severe.

I would bet that the current leg humping against periodization is a misunderstanding of Louie Simmons' stuff, Louie being the new expert to misunderstand. (Someone at coochfit probably saw the shirtless training / tatoo pictures from Westside and said "Hello, Frisco!") Louie talks about conjugate periodization, which I think he may actually have confused with the concurrent system, but who cares. But part of the idea there is, some sports, you can't peak for a few meets a year, some sports you need to be physically prepared for your sport for a whole long season.

Of course nobody except kookfit interprets that to mean that periodization is useless, most still find it useful to organize training with different emphases in different parts of the year, or year to year. Any decent athlete knows you can't be at your competitive best at all times. Only the mediocre can be at their best 24/7/365.

It seems what we have here is the highly successful and respected Russian system being reinterpreted / reapplied as the highly successful and respected Westside method being misinterpreted / misapplied by a kooky fitness cult. If you aren't sure which to follow, it would probably be best to do a gold medal count or a world record count.
