Re: The couch thread
I had a local cop ask me if my weight vest was an ammo vest.
Lulz.
The post office story is funny not because of the vest, mask, or package alone but the perfect storm of dumbassery that ensued.
But alas my hate fires are waning.
The more I focus on my training the less I care about everything else.
Gotta go throw.

First time with the axle. Hilarity ensues. @Fers are going to look a lot worse because they don't have a belly to rest the bar on. This is how most folks look.Hymen Asshole wrote:I don't know where to start or what to say

Waiting of the first pregnant axle clean.. Think of the shelf you have to set it on!Gin Master wrote:First time with the axle. They should strap a baby to their bellies, that would give them a decent shelf.

Continentals are for fat guys. Slender girls should stick to getting lightning fast at the O lifts. Those 5kg plates sure add to the video's gravitas though.Hymen Asshole wrote:I don't know where to start or what to say

Sadly, I can see way dumber shit walking into any community rec center fitness area right now. Not nearly enough dipshittery to sustain this thread. Sorry.

That was pretty bad. The first girl who almost skulled herself could have done something really special.WildGorillaMan wrote:Continentals are for fat guys. Why would anyone do a continental when they can clearly just powerclean it? Serious question. I don't do any SM stuff, at an @F box or otherwise.

I can hate @fit for lots of things but looking awkward with an axle C&P isn't one of them.

So. I'll ask: Where's Couch? Has he passed away, and HQ is playing Weekend at Bernie's with him?
Re: The couch thread
You quickly lose the ability to powerclean an axle as the weight goes up - since everything is fixed, no revolving ends on the bar, it generates a lot of torque on the wrists. Whether they're at that limit or not, don't know - but it's not stupid to learn how to do the belly clean, as you will eventually need it.baffled wrote:Why would anyone do a continental when they can clearly just powerclean it? As far as losing the axle: shit happens. That's why it qualifies as an "odd object" lift.
Technically, it's not quite a continental clean: you are not allowed, in SM, to use a belt / towel to build a shelf. You have to use your belly. Slight, but important, twist if you're underfed to the degree those people seem to be.
Re: The couch thread
this thread has really degenerated from an expose of @fit to scouring the net for videos and making fun of them... it sucks that there isn't much anymore to blow up... something will happen soon enough that will fan the flames again.
That video of those strongman lifts is fucking funny, but the biggest problem I have with it isn't the form, because continental cleans are going to be ugly as fuck at times... its the fact that that moron Jason from Albany feels the need to progress with continentals over teaching those weak bitches how to actually do a proper barbell clean and getting them stronger that way.
Its called strongman for a reason. Be strong then fucking do i

on the other hand he is still a retard for wearing the gas mask, why simulate high altitude if you don't have to?

Re: The couch thread
on his third hand he's an idiot because altitude training doesn't work that way. live high train low.
learning to pace yourself while you can't breathe doesn't do shit. you can learn that by breathing right and not panicking...as in, pace yourself.
but then...this is the couch thread.

It doesn't simulate high altitude. You should know that Crossfitters never know how physics works, whether it comes to work domains across broadal modes, or comparing gas masks to high altitude.Jay wrote:on one hand he is a retard for mailing a package while dressed like that, people forget that a large percentage of the population is going to think terrorist when they see that...Danny John wrote:http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_19440928

Short explanation is that air density remains exactly the same when you wear a gas mask. And when you exhale, you're actually going to breathe an abnormal amount of CO2 because it's going to get stuck in the mask; This doesn't happen at altitude. There is such thing as a mask that will simulate high altitude training, but it requires a compressor which looks like a scuba tank that you wear on your back.
But enough physics class - more birthday party.
Oh and you're probably just better off running more mileage if you want to be a better runner. DERRRRRRRRRRRR!

Re: The couch thread
You've seen at least one drunken competitor clean the axle straight into his weight belt he forgot to turn it around. That was pretty a low point.Blaidd Drwg wrote:Jag Panzer wrote:I can hate @fit for lots of things but looking awkward with an axle C&P isn't one of them.

You don't know what you're talking about. The video says "Supervised by Strongman Certified Coaches." Are you CrossFit Strongman Certified? Then STFU!Jay wrote:That video of those strongman lifts is fucking funny, but the biggest problem I have with it isn't the form, because continental cleans are going to be ugly as fuck at times... its the fact that that moron Jason from Albany feels the need to progress with continentals over teaching those weak bitches how to actually do a proper barbell clean and getting them stronger that way.

Shit, I just read the part where the axle weighs 10-15 pounds. It's one of those hollow pieces of shit rather than the 80 pounder. Damn, it's hard to hate, but it's hard to remain apathetic.

My axle clean is a thing of beauty. It makes ballerinas weep at the virtuosity.
Please ignore the point where I hit myself in the jaw on the clean.

I'll be honest, if that video didn't have "crossfit" mentioned anywhere in it, I wouldn't have given it a second thought.
The only people I've ever seen make an axle C&P look "smooth" have weighed over 140kg, including one 400+ lb Polynesian man. Slap CrossFit on it and it becomes hate-worthy? Naw. Not buying that one.

Re: The couch thread
the only way to make it look good is to have a massive gut to rest the axle on whilst you light a cigar.

Good article by Chad Wesley Smith:

Considering the idiocy of CF people doing strongman stuff when they clearly aren't at all ready for it as shown in the clip above, this stuff would come in very useful for them.Programming for Crossfit, and by that I mean competing in the Crossfit Games, presents many unique challenges due to the wide range of physical demands an athlete must be ready for and this issue is compounded by the fact that the athletes are unaware of the exact specifications of the events they will be participating in. Despite the wide array of physical skills that are necessary to exceed in Crossfit, there is one that will carryover to the highest to all other physical disciplines, maximal strength.

Re: The couch thread
Maybe to some small extent, but really only for experience purposes. But if they really wanted to exploit max strength, they'd be better served by doing the basic lifts (BS,DL,BP,SP) in some actual no-shit programmed progression than the current pell-mell grab bag of silly bullshit that they do now.Dave Chesser wrote:Considering the idiocy of CF people doing strongman stuff when they clearly aren't at all ready for it as shown in the clip above, this stuff would come in very useful for them.

Re: The couch thread
Yeah, I wasn't really feeling the hate for the video. They're being a little silly - strongman is about being strong first. But then I got that little bit about the bar being 10-15#? WTF, mate. They've got 10# bumpers and 10# bars. For crying out loud. I was prepared to think, "Well, they're being a little silly, but the girls are cute and are putting up something in at least the 120s, which is pretty okay because they look like they weigh about that much."
