Dragon Door/RKC (RIP)
Letter From Pavel Tsatsouline Regarding the Future of the RKC
Posted on August 17, 2012
Ladies and gentlemen of RKC,
Due to the differences in vision between the RKC co-founders RKC will cease to exist in its current form on July 1, 2013, the day after the last scheduled RKC event.
Power by Pavel, Inc. will continue licensing its RKC manuals and its 50% stake in the RKC name and logo to Dragon Door until that date and only for the events already announced, in order to honor the co
mmitment to the people who signed up for these workshops. Then PBP will terminate the license.
RKC was set up as a joint venture between Dragon Door and Tactical Strength, my other company, with DD providing marketing and administration and TS providing leadership and hands on instruction.
Tactical Strength, Inc., is removing itself from the RKC operation on October 29, the day after the last RKC event I had committed to teach at.
I intend to pursue my vision of RKC elsewhere, under a different name, details to be announced in a few weeks. I am sure John will do the same and I wish him best.
Power to you!
Pavel Tsatsouline
Chief RKC Instructor

So, Pavel is amongst all the other guys who quit RKC. I feel glad for him and hope that he can write more good books on training, but more in-depth and without the ad-copy.
Must be weird for RKC sales staff... will one still rely on ETK? Can RKC function without a strong leader? Will they take in Ivan Denisov? What will the new dress-code and hair-style be like post-Pavel?

I think he will find that without JDC's overheated copy and ruthless marketing savvy, he will return to obscurity within a year. Not that I want that, but I think it's inevitable. JDC will find some other fitness type to turn into a cult figure, and RKC (or some variation of it) will go on.
Hmmm...do you suppose this is why Convict Conditoning was getting such a push these last few months?

If DJ hooks him up with Laree I'll think he'll do fine.Abandoned by Wolves wrote:

I'm happy for him, he's better off.
Hopefully the douchy good ol' boys club that was the RKC will die, too. Then Pavel can mend some of the bridges JDC burned with decent (real) fitness pros, Not electricians, massage therapists, carpenters, __________ (insert any full time position) that also happen to an expert at teaching kettlebells.

Right there.
I got sick of asslickers who did this as a hobby and were great at glowing articles written at work getting more support from DD than those of us who nutted up and did KB instructing for living.
When the RKC started it was a big boy's club and merit was suppossed to matter. You were suppossed to actually have handled a damn KB before the cert but many touched a KB and got their first instruction at the cert.
You should have seen John's eyes and his "Maybe you might reconsider.." when I advissed Andrea fail 2 students at the 04 RKC I assisted at.
Or after all their "We support the Military!" self promotion when I came to them to donate KBs to our GI's in Iraq and Afghanistan. Jim Tirey and I were talking with MWR about them sending me over to the sandbox to do some KB workshops for the troops but the 2-16kgs, 2-53kgs and 2-32kgs John was willing to part with were not enough for MWR to send me over. it would have taken 4 times that, which would have been no skin off of DD's ass to do after all their Tacticle talk. I nor Jim was not asking for a dime from it, we just thought it be a good thing to do for the G.I.s over there. Something to keep them in shape and maybe take their minds off the war for a bit.

I assisted at 3 certs and it was made clear that everybody passes. JDC knew his best market was the RKCs themselves. If they failed, the likelihood of them spending any more cash with them was gone.DARTH wrote:The Nightman wrote:Abandoned by Wolves wrote:

It got the point that being associated with many of the people/trainers passing was not good me. The "Gold Standard" they were not.

Re: Dragon Door/RKC (RIP)
So, of all the negative aspects associated with the RKC/DD, over the last few years, some of which has been mentioned in this post, is the vast majority of that because of JDC, or was Pavel himself guilty of certian things? And even if some of it was aimed at Pavel, was it because he was being steered by JDC's mass marketing mind, and did it anyway, thinking it made good business sense, even though he may not have done that had he been running the show by himself?
When I brought Maxwell down here for a BW cert, he spoke VERY freely about his hatred for Pavel, as Cotter has done in the past. So, it seems obvious there are those who had/have issues with Pavel himself.

That's probably because of what I did at the oft talked about summer 04 "Code of Conduct" cert. Pavel was fine with my assesment and backed me up.
Durring the first pow wow of instructors I mentioned how it was more hands on and less pressentation when I certed and how Pavel even admonished some attendees and instructors for to much mouth not enough do in 03 and how I felt that's how we should proceed. Pavel even nodded to that. Then one of the SRKC's went into this speech about how alot of attendees were here to meet the SRKC so more lecture and demo time was needed. We learned more about technique, breathing and Pavel's take on programming in the first night of the 03 cert than those folks learned in 3 days of the 04.
I knew shit was turning right then. Pretty soon you could learn more at one of Mahler's, mine or Cotter's workshops than going to the RKC.
Mike and I also advissed Pavel and JDC that it might be a good idea (as in good for RKC's and the RKC standards) to require a perspective RKC canidate to spend x amount of hours training with an RKC, having attended a workshop before being allowed to go to the cert. Or maybe an RKC How to KB workshop by DD for those who just wanted technique and did not want to teach. Basically to seperate hobbyist from pros. That got shoot down with double 40mmm Bofors guns yet I see that in recent years they had a KB usage cert.

Re: Dragon Door/RKC (RIP)
This is a problem with any cert. Your early adopters will train on their own and then come to the cert for correction and treat the cert with respect. As you burn through those folks, eventually you get the middle crowd that use the cert for instruction instead of clarification. The quality of the two groups is starkly different. But that slide is inevitable.DARTH wrote: I got sick of asslickers who did this as a hobby and were great at glowing articles written at work getting more support from DD than those of us who nutted up and did KB instructing for living.

As for Gina GIF's, all of them are hot and welcome.

Re: Dragon Door/RKC (RIP)
As an outsider the two had a long and profitable run. At some point business slowed down. They were the first ones to offer cast kettlebells and imo that was the foundation of DD and charged very high prices, it also allowed them to have seminars, as new manufacturers came on the scene offering cheaper kettlebells you knew they were going to wash out sooner or later. But they lasted a lot longer than all other contemporary gurus like Sonnon and Furey.

IMO, Pavel as a writer puts out legit work. Every one of his books has been useful in some way and introduced a lot of people to concepts that were just not present in the discussion. (Easy Strempf and BBB near the top) I would love to see him do real valuable S&C work not the DD pablum they have been slinging for some time.

Re: Dragon Door/RKC (RIP)
How would he make money doing this? I don't see it happening unless Laree Draper starts wrangling him. Easy Strength seminars with Pavel and Dan John could be a good start. But I don't know if he could ever get back to the same level as the $2,500 per person RKC ass fuckings DD has been doling out.Blaidd Drwg wrote:I would love to see him do real valuable S&C work. . . .

Are you kidding? Pavel made DD, not the other way around. DD becomes a footnote because of this.
