How bad is it getting addicted to sleeping pills?
I'm not....
But I'd like to be - in the same way I'm addicted to coffee and wouldn't change that for nothin'.
But the truth is I hate falling asleep, until I'm dozing off in a chair, am chronically underslept, and am served very well by the occasional Advil PM.
My question is, are there pretty safe sleeping pills that are, like, fairly ok to take all the damn time?
And don't even talk to me about melatonin, that shit gave me the most fitful dreams and sleep of my life.

I'm not a doctor etc, etc, etc.... but Trazodone is a good one.
Restoril led to me having ridiculous anxiety.
I'm a fan of Advil PM, Benadryl, and decent booze to make sleep come a little easier. Not usually all three in combination.

I got a full 8 hours last night due to a Tylenol PM. Didn't know that there was an Advil PM. Will add it to the mix.
Can't speak much to going to sleep but for staying asleep I'm a big fan of Sonata (zaleplon). I frequently wake up after a few hours and can't go back to sleep. Zaleplon does the trick 95% of the time. Probably take it around 3 nights/week.

5 mg Ambien helped my problems getting to sleep, and I'm down to using it only once a week. If you have trouble staying asleep, there's a time-release Ambien.

How about ZMA? The one that comes from GNC has something additional in it, not a drug, but it works well for sleeping.
Also have you tried carb loading/crashing right before bed?

Valerian Root is ok. I would strongly advise that you stay away from sleeping pills. They will fuck u up sooner or later. Big Pharma always wins.

I remember during the Ala/acar experiments here that there were improvements in sleep. Might be a good, non-habit forming place to start
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I love the way IGx'ers respond about what they take as if THAT'S not going to sound alarm bells for normal prople. Persons of sense will avoid whatever shit IGers take like the motherfucking clap.
It's great to be first at last

I have tried them all, and have taken them for years due to chronic insomnia, restless legs and all that shit. I like Ambien the best. Gets me to sleep fast, and usually works for 7-8 hours. The only drawback is that insurance companies are a pain in the ass about them and when I have to refill early, I end up having to pay for them myself. Ambien has gone generic now, so its not that much.

My ex was on Lunesta. Only use I found was for crazy sex - pop one and try to finish before you conk out. Sex on a burning Viking ship.
As I understand it, the Ambiens/Lunestas may knock you out but you won't be getting quality sleep necessarily.

I lay down and generally turn out the lights.

I knew a chick who did the sleep walking and random shit on ambien. She was fucking psycho to begin with though, so i'm not sure how much of it was from ambien and how much of it was that she was a crazy bitch.
Been locked up on a 5150 twice, I think. One of those chicks who was a grandmother when she was like 36.
I personally don't like the pharmaceuticals as much as the over the counter Tylenol and Advil PM options. OTC stuff doesn't leave me as likely to be groggy and messed up in the morning, even if they only keep me sleeping for like 4 or 5 hours.

Anyone who has battled the sleep monster for any length of time will tell you, being addicted to sleeping meds sucks (whether that's something sage and mild like ambien or something serious like a hypnotic or a benzo). Not sleeping is much worse than these.

It seems that every other person has insomnia and is taking sleeping pills.
Every person that I have met (in real life) with sleeping problems, except for one or two, digests huge amounts of caffeine and sleeps with their smart phone. It may be a bit naive to look for other factors contributing to the situation but could be something to consider.

Terry B. brings up a good point. Get caffeine and sugar out of your diet, and wonders can happen.
