I was reading an article the other day how the Boston bombing while an American tragedy was not a personal tragedy to nearly everyone in the country. At first I thought the author was a callous douchebag but as I read it was basically people will try to inject ourselves into the situation through having almost been there. A really good read.

OK, the city is on lockdown, a dangerous terrorist is loose and the search is concentrated in your neighborhood. The terrorist is armed and is perhaps carrying bombs and wearing a suicide vest. You see blood on a tarp covering a boat in the backyard. Why wouldn't you just walk over there, lift the tarp and take a peek inside?

I thought the part about the 19 year old fighting his way out of being surrounded by the FBI and the entire Boston PD, flinging grenades out the window of his SUV as he drove through the streets which happened to be caught by nobody on film was the unbelievable part of the story.

The fact that he returned and snuck into the same neighborhood and hid under the tarp is even more so, however.
