Seriously though, when Andy had his hands UP, this ^^ is what happened to him. After he got roughed up on the ground, Andy was the one who was flustered and frustrated. He put his hands down to better defend the shot and did his best to goad Weidman into a standing battle, which didn't work out for him either.

Re: UFC 162
Weidman completely dominated the standup portion of the fight. Timing, distance, slipping, attacking, countering, and of course he landed virtually all of the head shots of the fight. Weidman literally toyed with him standing

Chris LETS Silva land one of his 3 or so connected punches here

Notice the off tempo backfist to mess up Silva's timing here:

Wish there was a GIF of the beautiful cross-hook counter to a weak leg kick that Weidman landed at the beginning of round 2

Re: UFC 162
That's what happened when Silva faced a guy who is a better athlete and has a similar reach

Re: UFC 162
I read something that talked about that little backhand pushing Silva back to where he couldn't lean back any further, allowing the left hook to land that put him out.
Something else interesting, the same article pointed out that Silva has always faced guys with very simple, predictable left-right punching (Forrest Griffin anyone?), which is easily slipped. Doubling up with the right hand seemed to throw Silva off. Then again, that may be reading a lot more into it than what it really is.

Re: UFC 162
I know you can't argue with righteous gifs, but my impression was that Weidman couldn't hold Silva down and Silva was winning the striking in the first, then Silva stuffed a takedown in the second before he got caught.
Silva clowned and Weidman made him pay, but I'm not sure that you can call it a commanding performance by the latter.

Re: UFC 162
Silva was definitely figuring Weidman out and taking command of the fight, but the clowning cost him.

Re: UFC 162
Go watch it again. Weidman was successfully holding him down and landing GNP, and willingly gave up top position to go for the kneebar and transitioned into the fairly close heel hook. This showed a ton of confidence in his top game, and made Silva worried to be taken down again, because from that point he kept his hands low to defend the shot. The takedown stuff in the second was a halfhearted shot where Weidman didn't even commit by doing a dropstep. On the feet Weidman landed every significant punch, while Silva landed flick jabs and some leg kicks.milosz wrote:I know you can't argue with righteous gifs, but my impression was that Weidman couldn't hold Silva down and Silva was winning the striking in the first, then Silva stuffed a takedown in the second before he got caught.

If you mean by landing less and less strikes as the fight went on, while also being hit more and more often, you're right.Kraj 2.0 wrote:Silva was definitely figuring Weidman out and taking command of the fight, but the clowning cost him.

Re: UFC 162
I watched the fight. Weidman blew his load in the first, as Silva knew he would do. Silva goaded Weidman into putting everything he had out there. By the middle of the 2nd round Weidman had considerably slowed and his takedowns were non-existant. If Silva hadn't have been clowning around with the "Oooh, I'm wobbly!" nonsense, he would've easily handled Weidman's one-dimensional attack.

Re: UFC 162
Thank you, Kraj. These fucking idiots are dissecting particular parts of the fight and not seeing the bigger picture. Silva was champion for 7 fucking years. He intimidated the fuck out of Weidman. Going back against the cage? Stuffing takedowns!? Weidman is a wrestler. Not a kick boxer. The fight was going only one direction - a Silva win. In many fights in the past, Silva started slow, figured out timing and ended up humiliating his opponent. When Silva did go on the attack he looked far faster, more unpredictable and dangerous. Showing gifs of Weidman's "dominance" is for FAGGOTS.

At least one of these so-called posts should have something to do with MMA imo...if you feel strong enough to post twice a day about Anderson Silva on a message board not that into MMA maybe you can educate these old men/hate mongers/queens.

Re: UFC 162
Silva holds the UFC records for most title defenses and longest consecutive winning streak. Ten times he defended his gold and 16 straight times he had his hand raised. Staggering numbers in such an brutal sport.
MMA is unpredictable, but for more than half a decade, you could count on Silva getting his fist raised by the referee at the end of the fight.
Let's take a look back at the seven-year, 16-fight win streak of Anderson "The Spider" Silva......

UFC Debut vs. Chris Leben, June 28
Few fighters have made as noteworthy of a debut as Silva did in the summer of 2006.
Leben, who was riding a five-fight win streak into the bout, vowed to send Silva back to Japan where the "competition was easier." His granite chin would meet a feared striker that most in the states had never seen before.
Forty-nine seconds of brutality was all it took. Silva had arrived.

Travis Lutter, February 3
Travis Lutter won a shot at the middleweight championship by winning the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Then he failed to make weight for the fight.
Lutter's jiu-jitsu was a big part of why he won the tournament, and he was going to put Silva's to the test.
In the first round, Lutter got on top and did a good job of baiting Silva on the ground to mount him. Things were different in the second. Silva's long limbs assisted him in locking up a triangle, and then he threw vicious elbows. The combination forced the tap in what would have been his first title defense.

UFC/PRIDE Unification, Third Defense vs. Dan Henderson, March 1
A trend in Silva's career was a new challenger being billed as his greatest test yet. Henderson was the PRIDE welterweight champion, and this would unify the two belts following the UFC's purchase of the organization.
Henderson took the first round.
Silva came back in the second. He landed key strikes, got on top on the ground and finished with a submission. Big ground-and-pound opened up the choke. It was Henderson's third loss via submission, all of which were to Nogueira black belts.
