http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2012/1 ... in-prison/Because of who he is and what he’s done, Jerry Sandusky could be in particular danger of sexual assault when he is sent off to prison this week.
With thousands of inmates raped behind bars in the U.S. each year, statistics compiled by the federal government show that sex offenders are roughly two to four times more likely than other inmates to fall victim.

The agency notified Sandusky he no longer will receive his $59,000 annual pension after his conviction and sentence in the child sexual abuse scandal.

I agree with their suit. Penn State will be paying the NCAA fine with Pennsylvania money, which will go to some sort of abuse prevention grant. It should go to abuse prevention as agreed, but stay in the state.Terry B. wrote:Given all the talk about kids, it's easy to forget that the Board and politicians are the real victims. http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/29/us/pennsy ... terno-suitJoe Paterno led the Penn State Nittany Lions for 46 seasons and -- in the process -- became the winningest coach in college football history.
Then came the child molestation scandal involving his former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and allegations that Paterno played a role in concealing it.
The NCAA vacated 111 of his wins over a 14-year period, fined the school $60 million, reduced scholarships and banned it from bowl games for four years.
Paterno died last year, his iconic reputation in tatters.
But his relatives filed a lawsuit Thursday to see that his legacy doesn't end that way.
The lawsuit -- filed by the Paterno family, several members of the Penn State Board of Trustees, faculty, former players and coaches -- takes to task the NCAA and a report by former FBI director Louis Freeh, whom the sports body hired to conduct an independent investigation of Penn State's handling of the scandal.
"The report on which the NCAA relied for its actions is fundamentally wrong, incomplete and inaccurate," a release from the parties filing the lawsuit said. "The consent decree with Penn State was hastily imposed on the University, completely disregarding the rights of the affected parties."

http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... al-chargesFormer Penn State president Graham Spanier has asked a county judge to throw out charges accusing him of helping cover up sexual abuse allegations against former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
Spanier's lawyers filed the motion last week, citing his allegation that the university's former top lawyer, Cynthia Baldwin, violated attorney-client confidentiality when she gave prosecutors information about him. He also argued that some of the charges were filed after the statute of limitations had run out.
His attorney, Elizabeth Ainslie, said Wednesday the criminal case remains on hold while Spanier's co-defendants, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, ask the state Supreme Court to review a recent decision by the grand jury judge that he did not have jurisdiction to throw out their charges.

At the time, that tale seemed a bit far-fetched, but it made its rounds in the media and on this site. The story quickly went away, though, and there were no more (legitimate) mentions of it. Until last Friday. That’s when CBS and Radar Online released similar but separate reports that said Sandusky was being investigated for his part in a child porn ring that sent letters to and illegal photos of children across state lines and, maybe, shared rape victims.

http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/ ... y-19804533Longtime Penn State head coach Joe Paterno said that the university mishandled its response to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, a former assistant coach testified Monday during a hearing for three top school officials accused of a cover-up.
Star witness Mike McQueary appeared in a courtroom for the third time since Sandusky's November 2011 arrest and told the court that top school officials knew that he had seen Sandusky molesting a boy in a locker room shower.
But the former Penn State assistant coach and quarterback also delivered some unexpected testimony: that the late Hall of Fame coach had told him over the years that "Old Main screwed up" — referring to university administrators — in how it responded to McQueary's allegation against Sandusky.
Pressed by defense lawyers on his discussions of the subject, McQueary brought up a specific exchange at football practice in the hours before Paterno's firing on Nov. 9, 2011 — four days after Sandusky's arrest.
He recalled the head coach saying the school would come down hard on McQueary and try to make him a scapegoat. Paterno also advised McQueary not to trust the administration or then-university counsel Cynthia Baldwin, the former assistant testified.

Governor Tom Corbett, who as the state attorney general opened the grand jury investigation that led to Sandusky being charged this month, said more victims tend to reveal themselves in cases like this as word gets out.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/ ... PG20111113"The attorney general made a decision ... that he is a witness to the case he made, that he met the minimum obligation in reporting it up, but did not in my opinion meet a moral obligation that all of us would have," Corbett said of McQueary on NBC's "Meet the Press."
Ok. Looking back, and considering that the Gosnell house of horrors happened on his watch as AG, he's in no position to talk.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... use-matterThe NCAA said Tuesday that it will reduce the unprecedented sanctions against Penn State's football program by gradually restoring scholarships starting next season. Officials did not rule out future modifications, such as reducing the four-year postseason ban.
The announcement comes 14 months after NCAA president Mark Emmert levied the historic penalties in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Penn State had faced a cap of 65 scholarships starting in 2014, but instead will have 75 scholarships in 2014, 80 in 2015 and the full allotment of 85 in 2016.
http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/college- ... -sanctionsUSC athletic director Pat Haden said Thursday that he has spent two days meeting with NCAA officials about the potential of gradually reducing the penalties that have plagued the Trojans' football program since 2010.
Haden said he and Dave Roberts, USC's vice president for athletic compliance, met with NCAA president Mark Emmert and other officials in Indianapolis after the NCAA decided to reduce sanctions levied against Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal.
USC AD Pat Haden is making a good move asking the NCAA to reduce the sanctions against the Trojans in the wake of the Penn State decision, but that doesn't mean it will happen, writes Ted Miller
However, a source familiar with USC's case told ESPN's Joe Schad it is "unlikely" the NCAA will grant relief because USC went through a traditional process, unlike Penn State.

My opinion is who gives a crap about the past victories. It's just a number in a list. If the Sandusky thing had become public in 2001, we'd have a different past from what we have now. And there's cognitive dissonance in arguing that the NCAA is a worthless pile of crap whose opinion doesn't matter, but then fighting for the NCAA's validation by wanting them to change the numbers back in their record books.

Finally, a defense attorney is going to have the chance to cross exam and put on their own witnesses instead of relying on the worthless press for their opinions. It's a shame that some of these supposed "victims" of Sandusky would be required to swear in court as to events with Sandusky. I believe most of them are liars and that there was very little if any abuse committed by Sandusky but even if there had been, these men will not be convicted of spitting on the sidewalk because simply there was no cover up. period And then let Freeh, NCAA, ESPN, Patriot Rag explain why they threw PSU, Joe Paterno and these three administrators under the bus?
