An Orange County jury Monday found two former Fullerton police officers accused of killing a schizophrenic homeless man, Kelly Thomas, not guilty.

Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli were charged with striking Kelly Thomas with a baton and a stun gun in a beating that left him comatose. He died five days later.

Ron Thomas, Kelly Thomas' father, said he was stunned by the verdict, saying he'd never seen such a miscarriage of justice.
Thomas also suggested that federal authorities should look into the case.

Ramos' attorney, John Barnett, told reporters: "These peace officers were doing their jobs...they did what they were trained to do."

I am pretty sure cops aren't trained to kill homeless dudes half their fucking size.

I'd feel outraged if were my family member, for sure. However, both the prosecution and defense had their day in court, presented the case to a jury of their peers and a decision was made. I watched the video and listened to the biased opinions of the Huffpo folks and, from what I saw, it was a simple case of a crazy homeless guy who was combative, refused to follow orders and was subdued by the means deemed necessary force him to comply. Happens hundreds of times per day across the country, though in the rare case, the perp expires. Perhaps, he would've died in an alley at some later date, drowning in his own vomit? I'm far more outraged about Benghazi, NSA, IRS....

Shit cops in my county are not allowed to use an impact weapon on someone's head unless it's life and death and it better fucking be.

Curtis Reeves, 71, appeared for a bond hearing Tuesday in a Florida court. A judge ordered him held without bail.
The retired Florida cop who allegedly shot and killed a young dad who was texting during a movie "had every right to defend himself" after the man hurled a bag of popcorn at him, his lawyer said in court.

But authorities said Tuesday there was no physical contact between Curtis Reeves and his victim Chad Oulson before he allegedly shot Oulson in the movie theater.

Reeves, 71, made his first appearance in court Tuesday to face second-degree murder charges for allegedly killing Oulson, 43, during an argument over texting at a Tampa-area theater Monday.

Friends of Oulson told the Associated Press that the father was texting his daughter's daycare. A neighbor of Reeves, Joe D’Andrea, said, "He must have just snapped."

Judge Lynn Tepper ordered Reeves held without bond and rejected the defense's claims that the murder charges were too severe.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper with a history of domestic violence won't face charges related to alleged sexual encounters involving a boy, Sandusky County Sheriff's Deputy Sean O'Connell said.

Trooper Ricky Vitte Jr. acknowledged to his wife that he watched porn with the boy five years ago and both Vitte and the boy masturbated together, according to a report by O'Connell.

Vitte later told his wife he was attempting to teach the boy about sex, the report said.

A few things stand out here.

1) Certainly a tragedy. I don't hope for anyone's death.

2) BART cops are in the news, and almost always for awful reasons. Oscar Grant, using a taser on the wrong person, shootings that appear less than justified etc.
