Paying children for sex sure helps them feed their families, but doesn't make the payer less of a paedophile.
Well that's the stupidest fucking thing I've read today. If you think trophy hunting is equivalent to child sex trade you need to fucking kill yourself.

The lions in these parks are human-raised, hand-fed while cubs, learn to not have fear of humans. I visited the Lion PArk in J-burg when I was there, got to pet the cubs and all that. Drove through the lion section and have nice pictures of a male lion humping the shit out of a female right in front of the car.Swamp Fox wrote:EZ nailed this.
In African countries that do not have legal hunting, there is almost no conservation, and the poaching is rampant. The lion and elephant populations have been destroyed.
In the countries with legal hunting, the income supports the conservation efforts, and numerous local jobs.
It's kind of like raising dogs and then putting out a dish full of food in front of a car with some fat fuck who has a dog shooting fetish and letting him shoot your dog. The dog shooter is paying big, big bucks for the privilege. I get the business model, and the cats lead OK lives until its their time to contribute to the owner's bank account, but the shooter plinking a lion like that? No respect at all. If it keeps him from poaching a free range cat, good enough.

The poachers aren't Americans or Europeans. They're Africans selling to the Asian traditional medicine trade. Fighting them costs lives and money, so why should African nations do it just because we want them too, they have bigger problems. Making live populations worth something to them is likely the only only effective method of making it happen. Poachers these days have full auto weapons, night vision, and shoulder fired AA equipment to fight air patrols. Stopping them is not like being a game warden in the US. It takes manpower and funding that has to come from somewhere.

Lay off Smet people. He saw the Lion King the other day and thinks it is a documentary.

There are canned Trophy kills, they are disgusting, and in no way should they be equated with the regular fair chase hunting (the vast majority of hunting taking place).Smet wrote:That's one side of the story. So they auction a tag for a shit ton of money that goes back into conservation and to fight poaching.
There is fair chase trophy hunting that takes place in a number of African countries. As EZ mentioned, those countries usually only allow the taking of past prime Males Lions, and the trophy fee that is charged is enormous. The money is put to good use. There is no comparison between a fair chase hunt and prostitution of minor children.

Lion park in Johannesburg is pretty much a zoo. This kind of hunting happens in private game reserves, and the fee goes to the pockets of the owner, not honourable goals like conservation or environment. The ethics of both the owner of the lion and the "hunter" are questionable, to say the least. I can understand the reasoning behind making big bucks (it seems it justifies pretty much anything as long as the amount is high enough), but someone killing an animal that's practically brought to you on a leash makes me sick.nafod wrote:The lions in these parks are human-raised, hand-fed while cubs, learn to not have fear of humans.
