Post by tough old man »

Gay Marriage.. Meh, yeah good for them hope they are happy.

ISIS...Kills hundreds this week and cant even find it on the fucking news. Have to watch Al-Jizzerra to find out anything.

News sucks in America.

This is IrongarmX. You get to choose either or both of the following as your response:

a) Follow that long and storied but now neglected Great American Tradition and MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!

b) Who cares!?!?

There is nothing significant going on here. Nothing at all.

Does seem odd the ISIS attacks weren't even mentioned. You have to admire their social media savvy, they used the hashish LoveWins when posting video of throwing some gay guys off of roofs on Friday.

You ask a kind of interesting question, because thanks to the internets, you can tie into whatever information feeds you want to. On my Google News feed, for example, I've tailored it to watch for news items on Iraq and Djibouti, for example. So I've been watching this for years, all while the US media has ignored it. If I was to wait for some suit in 30 Rock to decide to report on it? But why would anyone do that in these times?

I also watch a bunch of foreign papers and Al Jazeera.

Even better with ISIS is they put out their own monthly magazine. Impressive quality too. They are not subtle about their plan, and it works as a recruiting machine.

wow...

Three girls from Chechnya, using fake accounts on social networks, lured money from a recruiters of terrorist organization "Islamic State", reports RT.

Girls linked with the terrorists, who invited them to Syria. The girls claimed that they were ready to join the group, but they did not have enough money to buy tickets. To confirm the seriousness they sent pictures where you can see only face.

Terrorists who believed girls transferred money to them on electronic purses, girls took away money, then stopped the dialogue with the recruiters, and removed their accounts.

Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation.

News here is entertainment, and depends not on reporting, but on viewership, ratings, and ad revenue.

It's what we get.

The study found that less than six months after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, 33 percent could not point out Louisiana on a U.S. map.

By that rationale, the news should consist entirely of local weather reports.

Speaking of interesting news and what gets reported, it's time well spent hopping in the wayback machine and reading old newspaper from the Civil War. Gives you a feeling of reporting in the moment versus looking through the lens of history.

From Philadelphia, December 1st 1863.

And from Richmond the same day.

Some editorial infighting between Charleston Mercury paper and Gen Robert E Lee...

http://www.accessible.com/accessible/do ... ltPage.jsp
From the days of WASHINGTON, (who was himself
a Federalist,) to those of General ROBERT E. LEE, it has always
numbered in its ranks some of the strongest and most
influential names and individuals in Virginia - in the past and
in the present. A profound disbelief in the institution of
slavery lies at the very base of most of these menpolitical
opinions.

A precisely opposite system of ideas, at the base of which
lies a fixed and implicit faith in the virtue of the slave
institutions, formed the creed of the States Rights, so called,
Democratic party, at the head of which stood JOHN C. CALHOUN.
The great expounder of the true theory of the old Government of
the old United States, - of its relations to the States, and
their duties towards it - the great author of the true
principles of Republican Government, as based on slavery - his
convictions were profound as to the inestimable importance of
the institution of slavery, its absolute necessity to the
permanence of our political organization, its blessing to the
black and its elevation to the white man, and its perfection as
a system of agricultural labor. These views made Mr. CALHOUN
the great apostle of Southern ideas and the Southern system of
civilization. For fifty years, after careful thought and
consideration, South Carolina has stood upon this platform of
ideas, as her moral and her political code. Is there a man so
craven or so shallow [ ] as to abandon now?

Too easy.

One group will likely throw a cocktail party and the other mostly throw Molotov cocktails.
