So I find out my high school girlfriend died 3 years ago

Kind of feel a bit odd about it. She was a mother of 4, married twice, and a social worker. I don't know what she died from, only that it was "peaceful" and in a hospital.

This is the third or fourth person I know from HS who has died of disease/age/etc, as opposed to accidents.

We're at that age now.

A friend/work acquaintance showed up today on Facebook's birthday notifications. He passed away last year.

Had a similar thing. A summertime romance while in college, when I spent the summer working in Glacier National Park. Hadn't thought about her in over 30 years, then found the old roster from the summer. Pulled out the googler, and found a page where her family had raised money to help pay for medical bills. She passed away of cancer only a few months earlier. I wish I could have called and talked with her.

I sent an email to her son who was hosting the page, confirming it was her. He responded, and then I sent a longer email talking about my memories of her, stuff we did that summer as a group of friends, what his mother was like when she was just a young girl, a perspective they would never have otherwise. He was very grateful for the note.

Just went to my 50th class reunion in August. Out of my class of around 80 - 20 have now passed away. Enjoy it while we can.

Online client graduated with me. Lends perspective to how we, "decide" on a daily basis.
At my age.. the death thing,.. yeah... my close friend and best man at my wedding passed a while back.. That hit me hard....Lots of saving each other's lives in bad places had preceded that... we escaped it all. Almost.

Damn Shaf, I bet that brings up some shit?

At a funeral for one friend a few years back, i found out another had got into heroin and was dead in sight of 6 months! Blew me away.

A close friend from my wild years passed out behined the wheel 2-3 months back. They found tumpors in his brain, dead now.

That's life, no one gets out alive.

Enjoy this life, love your woman and kids, be ready to defend them and what is right and hopefully all will be good overall.

That's what I tell myself when I find myself thinking of death. Funny, getting killed does not bother me, it's getting sick and dying, becomibng old and senile, that shit bothers me. I'll probably get into sky diving in my 60s and 70s.

A similar thing happened to the wife and me. A girl who was my next door neighbor at home and wife's classmate for all 12 years of school died about 5 years ago and we only found out 3 years after the fact. We even exchanged Christmas cards for decades and her husband kept sending them and never mentioned that she had passed. She was a nurse and a sweet person, but morbidly obese her whole life. She was about 58 y.o.

I wonder about people who never popped up on Facebook. Given my age, it's weird for someone to never join, so you have to wonder if they're preppers or died somewhere along the way.

I was asking about a guy I grew up with who loved to drink and didn't mind driving when he did so.

Turns out the end of the story is as predictable as you'd guess.

Did you sleep with the other ones too? This could be a trend. My high school girlfriends have just gotten fat and uglier

It's weird to think that, every day, somebody somewhere is dying.

*shudder*
