I’ve upgraded my home network from Best Buy. Order online, and a guy in mask and gloves hands me a bag in the parking lot.

Pretty respectable fatality rate here, especially considering that obesity is a significant comorbid factor and the USA is easily the fattest of this group of countries. The Italians, Spanish, French, UK, Dutch, and Belgians are really getting slammed by this.
Also interesting how amazingly low the Chinese deaths and confirmed cases as a percentage of population are-- almost like they're complete lies. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/coronavirus/

China completely squashed their entire economy for this. You don't do that unless shit is getting really real. Every western economy is projected to go negative by 20-30% over the course of this thing. China's economy is projected to drop to "only" 2% growth.
So..... who's going to be in a better position to strengthen their global stranglehold when this is done?

Exactly. We are playing right into their hands, hiding in our homes like rabbits.

Re: Wu Flu
I think the message is deeper than that. China shut down harder than we did, and did it for longer than we have so far. They didn't underestimate this virus like we have (partly due to the fact China lied to the world about how contained they managed to get it).
The take away to me is that China makes so much of what is essential to the world now, no matter how fucked the west is, we have to continue pumping them money for their products. That has to stop. In a hard way. The west needs to consider it a war effort to repatriate manufacturing, technology, and intellectual property once we come out the other side of this.

The problem with China is the information is unverifiable one way or the other. It's much more illustrative to look at South Korea, since they have absolutely crushed it on this. Things are way more out of control here, so the ship has sailed on a lot of this shit, but why Trump is waiting to announce mask usage I have no idea. He said yesterday they're going to announce it? Why? Just announce it. "Wear masks."
Promising news is that treating severe cases with the plasma of recovered patients may be effective in turning things around PDQ.

One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Spells, lowdown on the plasma. Antibodies or something else?
Re: masks - it's been leaning that way for a while. If you don't have a mask you can either use a bandana or a neck gaiter/buff. Just make sure it passes the photon test. Hold it up to a light and if you see light through it, a virus will get through. Double up a bandana and it's pretty good. I have a neck gaiter for running and riding in cold weather that's a super tight weave that works really well. I double it up to make sure.
Sterilize in the over for 30 mins @ 175 degrees is the vest info I've found for DIY sterilization of used masks if you can't do single use.

If you have 5, circulate them. Virus dies after a few days. Washing is enough too.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 2:53 pm Spells, lowdown on the plasma. Antibodies or something else?

I thought they were holding off because it will make it even more difficult to supply medical workers with masks if every American is scouring the earth for them, no?Grandpa's Spells wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 2:05 pm The problem with China is the information is unverifiable one way or the other. An extraordinarily detail investigation into the origins of the Chinese AIDS:
On November 9, 2015, Shi Zhengli’s team from Wuhan Institute of Virology published a paper in the British journal Nature Medicine titled, A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence. The main content is that they successfully produced a self-replicating chimeric virus, which has the wild mouse SARS Coronavirus of the aforementioned RsSHC014 coronavirus “S protein” which can bind to human ACE2, and thus has a strong infectious power across species. In the experimental results, mice infected with this “synthetic” virus had severe lesions in their lungs, and there was no cure.

Re: Wu Flu
Need some opinions on this. There's a growing understanding that the cause of death from this little bastard isn't pneumonia but a form of hemoglobin attack by the virus that results in inability to transport oxygen. End game is basically hypoxia similar to altitude sickness. Solution is quite possibly red cell transfusion early and hydroxychloroquine/Z-pack to help fight the infection off.

Bret Weinstein and his wife are evolutionary biologists who talk about this exact thing in their latest podcast on youtube. It's streaming live now, I'll post a link once the stream is over.
Thoughts?

Re: Wu Flu
White House advisor Peter Navarro says China bought & hoarded 2.2 billion masks from around the world in one month (Jan-Feb). Plus goggles, gloves, respirators.
Navarro says China "tried to corner the world market in PPE when they knew the dangers & didn't tell the rest of the world."
https://www.nationalreview.com/news/pet ... us-threat/
Long story short, China obscured the danger of COVID-19 to the rest of the world, using it as a delaying tactic while they hoarded medical supplies they were telling the world it wouldn't need.

What's our end game with China here? Is the west willing to go to the mat after this is over?

Re: Wu Flu
The leadership? Almost certainly not. Their wealth is tied up in multinational corporations that derive their wealth, in part, from global networks reliant on Chinese labor, capital, or other resources. The people? Yes. So now you get to choose: globohomo open air prison planet or nationalist-populist revival. The destiny of the USA is to destroy the Dragon. It is our part to play in the cosmic striving of higher forms. Whether we take on that challenge or allow the world to sink into the morass of decay and subversion is our choice to make.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 11:59 pm What's our end game with China here? Obviously I'm not going to be making any big moves with my stocks right now but I will certainly be looking to divest myself of anything Chinese and avoid buying Chinese products.
