Impact Sport Electronic Earmuff
Tried these on today, pretty cool. Dampens loud noises (like clapping) and amplifies soft noises (like water bubbling in a pool).

I was wondering if he ever achieved Grandmaster status.vern wrote:He never made Grandmaster. I guess they over-hyped him.
I enjoyed his dad's book and the movie though.

I had a subscription. Some stuff was interesting, but the majority was really boring. Even the interesting stuff was generally somewhat boring.
I like the New Yorker and Wired.
Depends of course on what you're looking for.

The Art of Learning by Josh Waitzkin
I've been reading this for over a month and I'm still only half-way through a book of only 260 pages. EDIT: Finally finished it, terrific book. Josh is the kid from "Searching for Bobby Fischer", a chess genius and 8-time national champion who has gone on to become a Tai Chi Push-Hands Wor...

Saw this last night. Some parts were a little slow, but really funny for a lot of it. Very much in the vein of "Naked Gun" where the movie does not take itself seriously. "You diabolical dick-shrinking motherfucker's!!"...

Re: Shutter Island
Finished the book last week and saw the movie last night. First off, the book changes part of the way through. I was partial to the original plot, and while I appreciated what Lehane was doing, I didn't like it as much from the point of things shifting. Still finished it, but I wasn't excited anymor...

Paranormal Activity. Decent, some spoliage in my review
If you've seen "The Blair Witch Project," this is very similar. A likable young couple, one with a history of being haunted, decide to document any bizarre behavior using a digital camera. As the movie progresses, predictably so does the severity of the encounters. For the most part the ch...

Re: The couch thread
I still don't get what the problem is.
If Dave Tate is a good instructor or speaker, then does it really matter who he presents his information to?
Is his information bad depending on who listens to it?
Is his integrity compromised depending on who listens to it?

"Outliers," by Malcolm Gladwell
I'd like to preface this by saying I tried to read Gladwell's other two books, "The Tipping Point," and "Blink." I thought they were at first interesting, but then boring and repetitive. Half-way through each I gave up. I read all of "Outliers." It's a fun read with a b...

I thought this movie was pretty shitty. Robert Downey, Jr. was funny and a few scenes apart from him were good (the first 15 minutes and simple jack), but this was difficult to sit all the way through.
