Re: Thoughts on Handguns?

Fwiw, I can imagine my great grandchildren using my father's revolver. I don't imagine they'll be using the semi-auto I just bought. I don't know why they wouldn't be able to use it. It's not as though the frame is biodegradable, and replacement parts should be easy to find. Given the Zombie appoca...

Re: Thoughts on Handguns?

The greatest thing I ever did for my shooting skill level was training for PPC with a snub nose .38 and speed loading with wad cutters. After a few weeks I could drive fucking nails with my Glock 23. I have already spent too much money this past month but you bastards have me shopping for a .357 an...

Re: Thoughts on Handguns?

Also revolvers are much more dignified to shoot, because you don't have to crawl around collecting your empties when you're done. ^ This, and not just at the range if you catch my drift. For the .38 snubby (or full size .38 mohaska for that matter) Buffalo Bore make a bitching 148 grain hardcast wa...

Re: Making po po less militirized

Most police departments have either full-time or part-time grant writers and submit grants for everything and anything knowing full-well they won't be approved. Then to their surprise, they get an up-armored vehicle. The police chief isn't going to give it back, that's for sure.

This. More often than not, most city councils live in the out of sight out of mind mode and don't really care what's happening until after the fact. They defer to their city managers to keep an eye on the department heads.

Re: Making po po less militirized

California depatments are starting to have their officers wear video cameras to monitor their (and citizens) behavior. Naturally, for those departments that have started with such a program, excessive force complaints have dropped. And not just from the cops behaving better. The tapes are reviewed a...

Re: Thoughts on Handguns?

I've owned a lot of handguns. At the end of the day, I still prefer a Smith K-frame. Doesn't mean I wouldn't use something else, I just prefer the K-frame overall.

Great idea. The only nitpicking I want to do is propose Jack Daniels instead of Jim Beam.

I believe the Marlin lever action in either .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum to be the "best" choice given today's anti-gun climate. YMMV

Re: Thoughts on Handguns?

Look around for a police trade-in revolver. A Smith & Wesson Model 64 or 67. You can shoot any and all .38 Special loads in those. (and when it gets down to it, if you are only going to have one handgun, that's all you'll need) Learn to shoot double action. Once you get that squared away, then r...
