Re: Consistently missed
Its been my general experience that those the speak the most have the most limited experience with combat, and this is true across generations. The real BTDTs don't need the affirmation from folks who went "there" wherever that there may be. Both my grandfathers flew in WWII. Both were awa...

Re: SEAL speaking out. Shitbag or Hero?!
So no one should gain publicity, fame, adoration or attention through their job? Surely that's the basis of celebrity? Or any job in the media? Or anyone who's good enough at their job to cash in on it. And this is a perfect example of the attitude that I'm talking about. Military service, specific...

He is an asshole. This or versions of this (albeit on a smaller scale) have been happening since the war(s) kicked off 13 year ago. Here is the timeline: -Dude signs up -Dude goes to war and "sees some shit." -Dude experiences real or conveniently manufactured PTSD -Dude writes a book -Fif...

Re: Plenty of cookin and cleanin to be done around the barra
A Marine Corps captain has been speaking out against women in the infantry: http://www.mca-marines.org/gazette/article/get-over-it-we-are-not-all-created-equal You should see some of the hatred Capt Petrino has taken from her "sisters in arms" about this article in recent years. And once ...

Re: Plenty of cookin and cleanin to be done around the barra
The insertion of just one female around the type of guys drawn to warfighting totally changes the dynamic, and gets the troopies off-kilter. I had several different Female Engagement Teams cycle through my position on one deployment to Afghanistan, and a bunch of higher ups, aides and other female w...

Re: Let's Remember 9/11
Was just back from first deployment. Watched it on a 12" black and white TV with about fifty other Marines. Spent the next 18 months training and then participated in the Iraq invasion in 2003. I would have left the Corps with no guilt years ago if not for today.

Re: Drinking Stories
On the return trip from Iraq, my ship and one other stopped in Australia for liberty. We got off the ship at noon and I was blind drunk from whiskey shots by 4pm. At around six, I was dancing with this chick in a bar and some Marine from the other ship tried to cut in. I boxed him out. A minute late...

Re: Oct 3 1993
I'm sure that this is Hollywood dramatization, but there is a line from the movie when one of the Delta chracters is talking to the Ranger SSGT about what he tells people from his former life when they ask him why he does what he does. Easily one of the best lines in any movie, ever. R.I.P. to some ...

Re: RIP Lance Corporal Esrom Joseph
Appreciate the kind words. The hero in this awful story has been the Marine's mother. Her poise, courage, and wisdom have been a rock for us mush-headed jarheads. The other heroes have been my NCOs and SNCOs. Their performance in kee ping the Marines sane, focused, and on-mission have solidified my ...

RIP Lance Corporal Esrom Joseph
I lost a great Marine this weekend. On Saturday he was swimming with three buddies at Emerald Isle beach in North Carolina. He got taken by the rip, was pulled out, and drowned. At one point, two of his buddies had their hands on him, but the rip tore them apart. Joseph was a junior Marine, but had ...

Re: The Beginning of the End
There is no way that an individual, male or female, who can't hack it physically will be able to lead combat troops, Marines or Army. 2ndLooies already have enough to deal with in terms of eraning the respect of their Marines. If they weaken the standards, the Marines will know long before the first...

Not a joke. Verified with some phone calls and emails. Maybe someone at HQMC knows that the gender barrier is going away at some point in the near future, and that the big brains are trying to get out ahead of it.
