Re: The couch thread

Couch's whole quote needs to be repeated to appreciate the humorous: But here's the fascinating part. We can take you from a 200 pound max deadlift to a 500-750 pound max deadlift in two years while only pulling max singles four or five times a year. We will though work the deadlift, like most lift...

Re: The couch thread

Yeah. 500? Yeah. Anything over that is probably the result of, oh my fucking god, specialization on strength. Normal people 1. Pick a goal 2. Select a program/protocol that can lead to desired goal. 3. Train using picked program. 4. Allow for adaptation to program 5. Goal achieved. 6. Repeat as nec...

Re: The couch thread

I still think that there are no home grown 700lb Crossfit DLers. And honestly how could there ever be? A 700 pound deadlift is not something that just happens, no matter how much of a natural lifter you are. You have to get specific and dedicated to get up to 700 pounds. You can do the WODs from no...

Re: The couch thread

Why are you reading the crossfit journal? Did you pay for it and give money to the evil empire? Were you looking for items to bring to the couch thread and revel in the unsuperiority of the evil methods? Were you hoping to learn something? Or did you get it off the website? Why were you on the websi...

Re: SteveMaxwells online training.

I can't speak for Knuckles experience but after reading this thread and floundering in my own workouts I signed up for 3 months of training with Steve. The process began with a questionnaire (I also had to include photos) and then another performance assessment based on my goals. I received my plan...

Re: The couch thread

After a year or so most will either modify it beyond recognition it, scale it, or drop it for some other hardcore thing. A few will stay longer. CF is the gateway drug of the fitness world. It's one of the few fitness programs where you can come in with no real goals (weight, performance, competiti...

Re: Scott Sonnon - Prasara Yoga A Series Instruction DVD

I would say absolutely. The prasara book is o.k. Not essential and by itself would not be worth much. In fact, I am not sure it is even o.k. The instructional DVD is exactly that. Here is the flow, here is how you do it, step by step. No flowfit progressions so you are really on your own. From what ...

I have no idea if they are still available or not, but back in my young days I really enjoyed Elf Quest. Could be that I was young and stupid or could be that they were great. No idea it has been so long since I read them, but if anyone asked what my favorite was/is, I would still say Elf Quest. In ...

Re: The Norwalk Hydraulic Press Juicer

Many people are borderline type 2 diabetics and don't even know it. Consuming fruit juice and even carrot juice without the fiber to slow absorption CAN cause problems, especially if taken on an empty stomach, smartass. Don't believe me? No problem. I am sorry. I should not have made light of your ...

Re: The Norwalk Hydraulic Press Juicer

You will not die IF you are VERY CAREFUL. You just have to be careful when you juice. Think about what you are doing. Tread gently. Wear safety gear. Just be careful. Now really, how is juicing going to wreak your blood sugar levels? I can see if you went from zero carb diet to suddenly drinking a g...

Scott Sonnon - Prasara Yoga A Series Instruction DVD

Recently received Sonnon's Prasara Yoga A Series Instruction DVD. First of all, where FlowFit has an intro and then several flows that move from very basic to very advanced, the Prasara A series do not. What you get is a disc that has the A series flows and then a step by step instruction on how to ...

Although, in terms of mental toughness, nothing beats "holding the balloon" for time. What's in the balloon? Are you holding it down or holding it up? As far as I can tell, my chi is supposed to be in the balloon. Once my awareness and energy increase, I am will be able to make the balloo...

Re: The couch thread

I just cannot imagine that Crossfit would help you deal with the adrenaline rush/stark fear of a battle. From the USMC stuff on functional fitness... http://www.crossfitripper.org/images/docs/functional_fitness_concept_final_061120.pdf The link in humans between the physiological and the psychologi...

Re: The couch thread

My gut feeling is that Crossfit has absolutely nothing to do with holding a rifle, aiming, and shooting at people, and Crossfit has very little to do with not getting shot. I would probably think that while "fitness" would be important, there is a whole other level/type of training needed...

That guy pulling the military card is fucking retarded. Saying: "I do this so I don't get killed in war, even though there may be some long-term health consequences," even if doing CF would have any bearing on such a thing, which it doesn't, has NOTHING TO DO with: "I do this for no ...

Re: Juicer Recommendations

After looking at some reviews I picked up a Champion Commercial Juicer. Cost me 200 darn dollars. However, word in the juicing world seems to be that these things last forever and do everything you need to do as well as ones that cost twice as much. Today I juiced some apples, carrots, and some papa...

Juicer Recommendations

Anyone able to recommend a good juicer that I do not have to pay 1000 dollars for? Or even 200? Or is juicing just a complete and idiotic waste of time. I almost never eat vegetables, and feel I should do something. (eating them is obviously not the answer.) Or are vegetables just a waste of time?
