The Wrestler
Saw it this past Saturday. I thought it was excellent.
Mickey Rourke perfectly plays the character of Randy "The Ram." While the story is a straightforward tale of a man trying to avert self destruction, it's masterfully crafted with no unnecessary filler. Overall, it's gritty and depressing, but there are some unexpectedly funny moments as well. Marisa Tomei plays a tattooed stripper and shows plenty of booby and thonged ass.
Highly recommended.

Not the feel good movie of the season but really powerfull. My wife had an uncle that had a similar trajectory, so she was really shaken up. I thought I would come out thinking Rourke maybe didn't have to do as much acting as say Penn in Milk, but not so, tremendous performance.

That was a depressing movie.

According to the new issue of Men's Journal, Rourke turned down roles in Pulp Fiction, Platoon, The Untouchables, and Beverly Hills Cop.

Saw it last night. Absolutely awesome flick. His role somewhat mirrors his own life. He's deserves all the accolades he can get. I read that he wanted the wrestlers to be proud of his performance. Looks like he did that and then some.

Great movie.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Great movie. Marisa Tomei was great in it also. My wife didn't care for it, since it was a kind of sad ending.

I finally saw this today. Fucking awesome. The scene with his daughter on the boardwalk killed me. Marisa Tomei was great, too. And she looked great.
As an aside, a few years ago she played Salome on stage in NY. She did the Dance of the Seven Veils, sometimes going the full monte, sometimes not. By all accounts, incredibly sexy. A friend who saw it said afterwards, "I know what it would be like to fuck Marisa Tomei.

Everythig said above. Powerful. Real. Not been moved by such an understated performance in a long time.

Excellent flick. It was a little bleak, but I thought it did a good job of showing the ups and downs of everyday life. Especially the scenes with his daughter and a the deli counter. After it was over I was a little depressed though, mostly because nobody ever asked me to party like a fireman.

After smoking crack with Jake the Snake, it's hard to see how Rourke could even come close.
