Holy fuck, those people went straight for the throat. Obviously I touched an nerve. Read the fucking post below and tell me if I doesn't sound like some fucked up shit is going on beyond eating a standard American diet.
I like the asshole who immediately starts insulting my family.
"I was explaining to my kids that we were going to start an elimination of some foods to see if we could sort out some issues they were experiencing...nosebleeds, bed-wetting and behavior, to name a few. I told them it would not be easy, but we would work together on a schedule of rewards to help them through the process. They actually seemed somewhat receptive (we've talked extensively about food for the past 3 years or so, so they weren't to surprised when Dad had another idea around food). About 30 minutes later, my 10 year old comes up to my room to ask me if I had any books about 'good food to eat and bad foods that we shouldn't eat'. I handed him ISWF (I've handed out many copies thus far) and said that we could read together at nighttime before he goes to bed. He said that he also would like to take it to school to bring to Health class. That 'all we've talked about so far is what skin and bones are made of and this would be great.' Now, what was really cool about this, in my opinion, was why he approached me. He WANTED to learn more, not to curry favor with his Dad, but because he's starting to truly understand the importance of the food choices we make. It's been a long process, but last night was the payoff...the moment the BIG light bulb goes on and they start asking the right questions."
People are fundamentally stupid.
Some guy starts telling me how "Wheat Belly" is the bible and Life Extension dot org is the best thing on earth. I hate to tell this idiot that I'm an insider in the whole supplement scam and "hate the FDA via Life Extension". I could tell him stories that would curl his hair.
What the issue is.. they need a cause... something to grasp. Rather than think and look at evidence and change through out their life.. they need to be paleo or republican or vegan or something... rather than think for themselves.

This is it in my opinion as well. I am never ceased to be amazed by the level of...it's not really stupidity...mindless, lemming-like behavior that exists on discussion boards. The Internet allows people to connect with others who share similar beliefs and form communities based on a rather narrow set of beliefs that needs to be protected from outsiders.
Any discussion board that is based on a dietary practice, political view or copyrighted fitness movement is inherently fucked from the beginning.

You should have seen the DD nutrition forum back in the day!

That shit would be silly if he weren't setting his kids up for some kimd of eating disorder.
Who needs to discuss an elimination diet with their small kids? Just stop giving kids the shit you don't want them eating.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.
No FB access at the moment and pissed off that, like most things Shaf posts, I needed to search to find out what he was talking about.
They have an entire forum of goodness. It starts off fine - eat real food - but then people twist it into a religion battling the evil ones out there. Their board on raising kids is full of particular goodness like this advice for going "cold turkey" with toddlers and eliminating a good portion of food from their diet.
Be prepared to think your kid is starving himself for a little bit, or that he is eating a terribly unbalanced diet. Eventually he will get hungry enough to start eating more. Also, someone suggested once to me to act excited about what you're eating. That works sometimes for my daughter, especially if her dad does it.

My youngest son has been feeling sick every morning for the last 8 (or so) days. He feels weak and sick to the stomach and doesn't feel like eating. He's also very pale, so I can see he's not making things up; he says he has a strange flavor in his mouth and his breath smells. Then a few hours later he starts feeling better and would eat something and by noon he feels good again.
When I researched his symptoms it looks a lot like ketoacidosis. My SIL also says her daughter used to have the same problem for a while as a child and they would give her coca cola in the morning and she would feel better. I have no intention at all to give my 10-y.o. coke every morning

In the past few years, when people find out I am friends with Benni Magnusson, I always get the same question: Why does Benni drink Coke when he is deadlifting?

This is like the time I blamed coffee for making me an asshole, when in reality, I'm was just being an asshole
Sahf, this looks like one of those times. I have no idea what in that guy's tale set you off or why you're glomming for even more attention for it here.
You sound like some of these parents who try to shield their little butterballs from everything. My next door neighbors don't even let their kid see his own his report card.
I could be wrong but those two in the pic look like they're aliens and differently act like ones.
Fucking goofy ass androids will try and ruin you every time.

Even when popular @fitters leave the cult, they take with them followers with the same slavish and worshipful attitudes. They're the new fundaMENTALists who have to have guru or system to worship.
Steve, I'd argue that my kid not only eats better than you and your kids, but probably has more friends. He's a terrific athlete and does well in school. He plays a ton of video games as well. He's read all the Harry Potter books also. Did I mention that he spends his whole summer outside playing different sports? He happens to understand a little about food, clearly more than you. Maybe your parents didn't show you enough love. My apologies. Thanks for showing everyone how judgmental you are. You're a real hero.
