Democrats Strike Back

Post by Fat Cat »

Analysis: Urban states come out ahead, rural states get less in Biden's COVID-19 relief bill

Under the new bill, named the American Rescue Plan, 61% of the aid would end up in states that voted for Biden in November, up from 56% in the bipartisan CARES Act passed last March.

“The real reason for this bill is to send billions to bail out blue-state governors and reward their harmful lockdown policies,” Representative Jason Smith of Missouri said at a House Budget Committee hearing on Monday.

The new bill would direct roughly $800 per person to Republican-led Utah and Alabama, which had some of the least restrictive COVID-19 responses, according to Oxford University researchers.

It would send roughly $1,200 per person to Democratic-led Massachusetts and New York, among the most restrictive.

Nice to see they are taking immediate steps to build national unity! =;

You'll never know. But, it's pleasing to me that you can't deny this is partisan vengefulness and don't bother with some socialist veneer.

partisan vengefulness
The stuff being put forward is popular with the majority of Americans. That's the real bi-partisan.

The republicans represent a minority of America, so while it looks partisan when they squawk about it, it isn't.

The Dem Senators represent over 40,000,000 more people than the Repub senators do, although their vote split is 50-50.

Why suck up to a minority who get an outsized piece of influence due to geography?

Universities in America are scams, duplicitous rackets for siphoning federal student aid money via from Uncle Sam, leaving gullible young people holding the bag.

What they need to do to fix the situation:

1. Reduce foreign students. If you take more than a small percentage of foreign students, your institution should not be eligible as a recipient for federal grants or tuition via FSA.
2. Market pricing. Academic programs should have to declare the average market value of the degrees they are selling. A school can charge just as much for an Art History or Women's Studies degree as they do for pre-med, but they're not worth the same amount, and they should have to be honest about it with the consumer.
3. Eliminate anti-Americanism in state funded schools. Whether by law or executive order, they should cease any federal funding or FSA for institutions that allow foreign political activism (e.g., Confucius Institutes) or promote Marxist or post-Marxist ideology.
4. Availability of federal grants and funding should be scaled to the institutions that are producing domestic graduates with degrees in desirable fields such as technology and engineering. We should not be training the future engineers of China or future radical-left agitators.

It’ll go nowhere unless there are some special carve outs for Montana, West Virginia and Maine.

Yeah, right?! I dunno, maybe you should read the Democratic platform that they lied about to get gullible Americans to vote for them?

Yeah they'll invest all right, just not as much as they will dump on their ghettoized "urban" base.

I won’t argue with most of it. But...

Foreign students are a cash machine. Why not take their money, indoctrinate them in the American way, keep the smartest ones here, and send the expendables home to fight for democracy in their authoritarian countries?

A couple of reasons. Actually three.

One, each space taken by a foreign student is one that could, other things being equal, go to an American student. That means one less American engineer, one less American doctor, one less American scientist. Which is right and fair for institutions which are receiving federal grants and aid, paid for by American taxpayers.

Two, money is a corrupting influence. We all know it's a necessary evil, but money buys influence. At an extreme level, like we've seen in Australia, institutions of higher learning have become addicted to rich Chinese students and their money, and engage in self-censorship to avoid losing them. That's the absolute worst thing possible for a temple of academic honesty and freedom.

Three, we have already tried it. It didn't work. The whole premise for aiding the rise of China in the hope that it would become more liberal was false. We cannot compete with countries like India and China, or even the EU, if we don't play to our advantages.

I figure that the "blue" States have screwed up their State employee pension funds. Illinois and California's pension plans are in poor shape. I bet a lot of money goes into pension funding.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/20 ... /40302439/

Add up the shortfalls in pension funding. No one in Congress is gonna bitch because every State has some trouble.

Good thing we're not a Democracy.

Riddle me this, Professor. Being a Progressive means being ahead of the herd, which means that you're not part of the Majority by definition. How do you claim majority while driving it forward into the future?

You don't - it's why Progressives love Administrative Dictatorship so much. Stroke the pen, law of the land, or even better - policy decision law of the land.
