Peaky Blinders

Post by Batboy2/75 »

English gangsters meets Boardwalk Empire.

English gloom, English gangsters, interesting time period, and lots of "ultra" violence.
Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.

I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

Sadly no.

Just your motley crew of British Character actors engaged in British thuggery.

I heard great things about this a few days ago from two friends. Now that I'm all caught up on Justified, I might start watching.

This was outstanding. And Charlotte Riley.

Tom Hardy stole the show.

This is a Netflix series, not a British tv show.

Uh no. It's a British show, first aired on the BBC. Netflix bought the American distribution rights.

I see. Netflix advertises it as a "netflix original series" on their site.

Is the title supposed to be cockney rhyming slang for something?

This particular English gang would sew razor blades into their newsboy caps and use them as weapons. That is one theory behind the name. Another does involve English slang from the Victorian and or Edwardian era when the Peaky Blinders gang was formed.

The name is due to the razor blades sewn into the caps, as Batboy suggests, however in reality it's unlikely this ever actually happened, due to the rarity and cost of disposable razor blades at that point.

Enjoyed it. No weak characters. Lots of twists and turns, although the ending of both seasons were a little weak. Hopefully Hardy is back for season 3.

Mick recommended this on FB and now I’m bingeing, this is entertaining.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Just finished. Tom Hardy was awesome. The whole show was great. Although Adrien Brody's character was a little over the top and sounded like he wanted to imitate Marlon Brando's godfather. Very satisfying how they dealt with him and could've ended the season right there. Just heard that there may be 3 more seasons coming .
