Unbreakable Runner by Brian MacKenzie

Post by TomFurman »

A waste of 9.95 on Kindle.

Just running + Crossfit.

Wouldn't Unscaredable Runner be more appropriate?

Glanced at it. Didn't buy it. More info here for ultrarunners who want to lift than
contained in the entire book. There are some ultrarunners who do Crossfit - I see very few of them at
the finish. (There's exceptions of course but those are the guys you would see at the finish regardless of what they do)

It's actually not by MacKenzie, is it?

The author discusses how he followed a traditional program, had good results but then found the holy grail...and never improved but believes he "feels" better - I didn't purchase it.

Fast after 50 by Joel Friel makes the strongest case for high intensity work in endurnCe athletics I have read in the last 10 years

When it comes to applying scientificals to endurance training, Friel is the only person you really need to read. He has the definitive books on cycling and tri.

But the scientific approach is the very thing that can drive you insane if you follow his training. Training years are blocked out to the day. You have to be a total enduro fag to go that batshit crazy over ride/run/swim training.

The guy, who worked for a few of the biggest endurance-oriented publications, said he was broken down and could barely walk, but med ball slams and lipping pull-ups fixed him.

Fucking phone post. Kipping pull ups.

May like the sound of "lipping" pull ups better.

The thing with CFE is, I like the idea of non-professional runners focusing on form and strength first, before endurance. Eric Orton, the coach from Born to Run has a similar idea, but his strength training isn't idiotic. IIRC, he had McDougall running short runs, hill sprints and doing a lot of balance, foot, ankle and hip work. All in addition to form work.
