Drive-By Truckers, "American Band"

Post by Bud Charniga's grape ape »

For my money, it's their best since Dirty South. The music is fantastic. The lyrics are...well, the band's gotten a lot of stick for writing lyrics that are explicitly political instead of implicitly political, the way they've always done. I dunno. I think it's hard to listen to a song like "Puttin' People on the Moon" or "Decoration Day" without hearing the politics leaking through. But de gustibus non disputandum.

But if you don't mind the politics (I am a Bay Area lefty asshole, so I don't), or if you can set them aside, this is a great, tight rock album.

That tune pretty much rocks. Grabbed.
Don’t believe everything you think.

Here's a link to a full performance of the full album they did on NPR music:

It's a good one.

Saw them and The Hold Steady on their Rock N' Roll Isn't Dead tour eight or nine years ago. A great night.

It's been a long while since I was really into any of their albums but they remain amazing live.
