So from a local perspective what happened last night? I heard there was a lot of shopping last night where people weren’t respecting social distancing rules.

Local storm troopers were persecuting a future US Senator who defended xerself by executing xer 2A rights. The white devils returned fire and visited an unjust injury to one of the nation's future leaders. The Wakandan Twittersphere then informed a group of local freedom fighters that a bad thing happened, and they took it upon themselves to undo the current social order by appropriating various consumer artifacts from the complicit merchant class enablers.

Just wasted 15min in the car because a bunch of bleks were going to a funeral and riding on top of their cars and ghostriding in the middle of the day.

Like I was on safari or something.

I'd sit tight on this one. The initial narratives coming out feel a little Jussie to me.

Sketch website but Sun Times also says body cams didn't record shooting, which isn't a good sign. Fuck looting, of coarse.

Article in Reason magazine about the results of bail reform.

"We review the Cook County Chief Judge's study of these reforms, which sanguinely asserted that as more defendants were released pretrial no additional crimes resulted. We believe that, properly assessed, the study's own data suggests a significant increase in crimes as a result of the changes.

These public safety harms call into question whether the bail reform measures as implemented in Cook County were clearly cost-beneficial. And because Cook County's procedures are state-of-the-art and track those being implemented in many parts of the country, Cook County's experience suggests that other jurisdictions may similarly be suffering increases in crime due to bail reform. Accordingly, our findings may be useful to policymakers elsewhere as they consider whether and how to implement changes in pretrial release procedures."

https://reason.com/2020/02/19/bail-refo ... sed-crime/

"Prominent politicians, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, backed a new bill to roll back many of the changes, which passed April 3.

Bail reformers across the country have been paying close attention. “New York is certainly a cautionary tale,” said Alec Karakatsanis, a reform advocate and executive director of the Civil Rights Corps, a criminal justice non-profit that has filed lawsuits challenging bail in several states."

NYPD complains a political climate that makes them reluctant to arrest people for gun crimes.

"Arrest numbers have plummeted even as shootings have spiraled up, and some elected officials contend that rank-and-file police officers are staging a work slowdown in response to protests over police brutality and systemic racism that erupted after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

But senior police commanders say they believe that their inability to curb the shootings stems from the need to shift police resources to the protests, as well as a hostile political climate that has made officers reluctant to carry out arrests because of what they see as unfair scrutiny of their conduct.

Police Commissioner Dermot F. Shea, in an interview on CNN on Thursday, tied the rise in shootings to the release of thousands of people from Rikers Island under a new bail law and measures meant to contain the spread of the coronavirus — without providing data to support his claim. He also cited the partial shutdown of state courts during the pandemic, which has delayed gun cases.

“When you put those two factors together and now you add in an anti-police sentiment and new laws that do not help the police, it is a toxic, toxic environment,” he said."

Bail reform is fucking simple

Violent crime/repeat offenders? Put up or go to jail.

Non-violent crime/first offender? For fuck's sake reform the system for this group of people.

All marijuana prisoners need to be released across the country.

Bail is perhaps the most important right. I'm hardcore in favor of it. The sovereign should have no ability to lock up and prevent the merely accused from freedom and assisting in their defense.

That being said, the common notion that people are denied bail or even jailed before trial is just wrong.

There are almost no ppl jailed before trial on a first or even third offense. For non-violent and violent crimes.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how the system works.

Anyone imprisoned for a "non-violent crime" has an extensive criminal background and was almost certainly popped on a warrant or multiple warrants for serious offenses. And the actual offenses that person is guilty of in the past are usually legion.

The idea that some square john gets popped for possession of a few joints or the equivalent and is jailed and then imprisoned on a felony is not reality.

It takes serious work to end up in prison.

This is just an aretfact of the impossibility of policing 15-25 yr old black males in a way that is aesthetically acceptable to white women.

What happens is career criminals finally exhaust the patience of DAs and get rung up on some bullshit possession charge and get jailed and then sentenced to prison time.

The fact that they are nominally in jail or prison because of possession or DV is irrelevant.

That's fine. And i support the sentiment.

But if you want to stop the endemic crime in the US, you need to accept that young black males need to be brutally policed.

Personally, I'm in favor of paying huge dollars (trillions) to black women and older black males in exchange for the ability to police young black males.

Members of Black Lives Matter held a solidarity rally on Monday night with the more than 100 individuals who were arrested after a night of looting and unrest in Chicago.

The rally was held at the South Loop police station where organizers say those individuals are currently being held in custody.

“I don’t care if someone decides to loot a Gucci or a Macy’s or a Nike store, because that makes sure that person eats,” Ariel Atkins, a BLM organizer, said. “That makes sure that person has clothes.”

“That is reparations,” Atkins said. “Anything they wanted to take, they can take it because these businesses have insurance.”

Spaying selectively those with a serious criminal record would work too. And it would be cheaper.

Cheaper how? You don't think castrating a sizable majority of every generation of black men is "expensive"? Monetarily and orherwise?

Because that's what you'd be talking about.

Early release from prison in exchange for consenting to be neutered. Win-Win.

It's not that different from chemical castration for sexual predators. And it's permanent.

I get it. But do you appreciate how large a % of black males this will effect every generation? And the response?

That's extremely accurate and well said. So many of society's problems today are reducible to that demographic's unfortunate involvement in political life.

Offer incentives for voluntary sterilization. Let's give people money to get the procedure done, vasectomy or tubal ligation. I think a lot of people would take that deal. Enter the names in a database so they only get the money once to keep people from gaming the system (like going to Mexico to have it reversed and then applying again). There will be political difficulties but that's no reason to not try it.

Inmates would get the same deal. Also give time off their sentences where appropriate, for example if someone's getting out/eligible for parole in five years, make it three if he agrees to a vasectomy.

The way this always works is whites take advantage and minorities don't.
